"Life's not about waiting for the storm to pass ..... It's about learning to dance In the rain." - Vivian Greene - I welcome the opportunity to dance in the rain with you ... to explore the storms that have marred your life and prevented you from knowing joy. To help you discover the beauty of the storm, and perhaps more importantly, become empowered to weather present and future storms. Personal pain takes many forms: relationships that are a little off, and need realignment, or completely broken requiring redesign. Your pain may take the form of depression , anxiety, fear, or traumatic memories.

My belief is that psychology is not a “one size fits all” solution. Just as each person differs through their personality, qualities, and life experiences, so does the healing journey and plan of care for each individual client. If you are looking to understand your thoughts, feelings and behaviours and where they might stem from, you are in the right place. I work primarily with youth and adults who struggle with symptoms of depression , anxiety, and who are dealing with increased stress overcoming life events.

I have several areas of interest and experience, including grief and loss, trauma, play therapy, depression , anxiety, and relationship issues.
There are many reasons why people pursue counselling. Some want to address specific problematic behaviours. Others, long-term difficulties that have not yet been resolved. Some want to find alternate ways to cope while others want to discover more about themselves in order to live life more authentically. Whatever your concern, it is a privilege to support your personal therapeutic goals on your own self-development journey. I am a Provisional Registered Psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychologists and a member of the Psychologists Association of Alberta.

You can learn healthy coping strategies, build a support network and make meaningful changes in your life. Whether your suffering stems from relationship, parenting, interpersonal struggles, or unresolved past trauma, you have the capacity to heal, even when you feel life is unbearable.

I work with clients around anxiety, depression , grief and loss, anger management, self-esteem issues, stress management, marital distress and communication concerns, as well as emotional regulation, mindfulness skills training, distress tolerance, and trauma.
I am a Registered Provisional psychologist with a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from the University of Alberta. My approach to therapy emphasizes the importance of confronting our painful emotions and experiences from a place of safety, curiosity, and honesty. I work with individuals and couples as well as teens and youth. I also have a special interest in working with men. I believe that men are often under resourced when it comes to accessing, expressing, and understanding their emotions, often leading to painful, yet avoidable, experiences.

Our world is ever-changing and demanding more of us each day. This can make us feel like we are falling behind and sinking into quicksand. When this happens, anxiety, stress, depression , panic, and other harmful feelings emerge. Society gives us the message that we should be able to deal with all of these things on our own and, worse yet, that our feelings are not even real. I am here to say your feelings are legitimate, that you count, and there is a way to work through them. Together we can create goals that work towards coping with daily activities and then thriving within your life. My service dog, Goliath, will also be there!

Accepting New Patients - Navigating life's unexpected challenges and stress can lead to feelings of overwhelm, being lost, and feeling alone. Often when people experience this discomfort they use coping strategies that can lead to negative outcomes, such as low self-esteem, depression , anxiety, and using substances. If you are needing help to get back to yourself and learn new healthy coping strategies, wanting to explore addictions treatment or have untreated trauma, we will work together to develop a treatment plan that suits your needs and helps to achieve your goals.

Depression Counsellors
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression is not a passing blue mood, which almost everyone experiences from time to time, but a complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning. It not only darkens one's outlook, it is commonly marked by sleep problems and changes in energy levels and appetite. It alters the structure and function of nerve cells so that it disrupts the way the brain processes information and interprets experience.

Despite feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, depression is a treatable condition. It can be treated with psychotherapy by depression counsellors in Stony Plain. As with many illnesses, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it can be and the greater the likelihood that recurrence can be prevented.

Psychotherapy addresses the thinking patterns that precipitate depression, and studies show that it prevents recurrence. Drug therapy is often helpful in relieving symptoms, such as severe anxiety, so that people can engage in meaningful psychotherapy.
