I also use Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy and Mindfulness and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy which can be used alone or in conjunction with EMDR.
Hello, I have been in the field for over 18 years and enjoy working with others to see their true potential. My specialty is working with trauma including: childhood, first responder and single incident (ie. motor vehicle accident). Besides trauma, I help treat people dealing with mood issues such as: depression and bipolar disorder, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder and ADHD. By working through our often overwhelming emotional response to challenges, it allows an opportunity to embrace a more positive response. A healthy balance of connecting in times of need versus the tendency of anxiously attaching or withdrawing.

Many people struggle with confidence and are unable to fulfill their goals for relationships, work, and personal fulfillment. Understanding how your core values and beliefs impact aspects of your life such as work, relationships, and overall fulfillment can give you the power to overcome these struggles. Through learning to accept and love yourself fully you can move past shame that is likely impacting how you feel and behave. Through awareness of your power to change the meaning you give to events within your childhood, you can become free from limiting beliefs.

Art therapy is my favorite modality, and I like to incorporate art making in other forms of therapy, such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), mindfulness , and play therapy.
***I am not accepting new clients at this time.*** Therapy is no easy task. (Yeah, I said it). It is a lot of work with ups and downs, just like everything else you've accomplished to get to where you are! Whether you are seeking help for grief, trauma, life changes/events, depression and anxiety, family and relationship troubles, stress, or any other issue, it takes dedication to the process of self-discovery. If you are ready, I would be honored to take the first steps beside you.

She brings in a variety of techniques from a multitude of orientations primarily Rogerian Person Centered, Mindfulness , Choice therapy and Coaching techniques.
Michele specializes in clients who have experienced a life change that has left them feeling lost or unhappy. Traumas and survival patterns that we have buried deep in our subconscious can surface when challenged with life changes causing us to struggle with our new normal. This inner turmoil can throw our natural rhythm of living off disturbing our current adaptive patterns resulting in conditions such as anxiety and depression, questioning of our values and choices, it may challenge our self-esteem, lessen our enjoyment of relationships as well as trigger somatic disorders such as IBS, inflammation and chronic pain.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Counsellors

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behaviour through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviours and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioural habits.
