I have over 8+ years of experience working with children, teens, adults, families, and about 3 years of experience facilitating relationship groups for women and men, as well as support groups for school-aged children, adolescents, and seniors.
Life transitions, daily stressors, trauma, and mental illnesses can negatively influence the way we think, feel, and behave. These factors can cause us to feel "stuck" in old habits and patterns of thoughts, feelings, and behaviours that no longer serve us. I recognize that when we are stuck, it is difficult to make that first step towards change and reach out for support. Hence, I acknowledge you for making the first step into finding what works best for you. I understand that you want to take charge of your mental and emotional pain so that you can unlock your utmost potential.

"I just want to feel a sense of peace again. I haven't felt joy for too long. I don't know why I feel sad and angry all the time." These are statements my clients often say to me when I am learning about them. In womanhood, there are complex reasons why women struggle. I look at areas like work, intimate partnership/s, friendships, early childhood experiences, female biology, the relationship with the self, and the relationship with spirituality (how to make life meaningful) to help untangle the emotional web women feel stuck in. I gently teach women how to begin the process of healing by looking within.

Rooted in the country, I am an experienced counselling therapist providing support to (mostly) rural women . Rural women - a unique culture with unique concerns, issues, and goals. I specialize in trauma and addiction and the inevitable hardship and heartache resulting. From a feminist perspective, I offer expertise and caring based in scientific research, neuroscience, body-brain connection, and dialogue. Sessions are gentle, informative, and effective. Together, as a team, you and I explore symptoms, heal wounds, address issues, and forge change, wellbeing, and empowerment. All with an open heart :-)

While I work with a variety of concerns, I am especially passionate about empowering women to manage anxiety, stress and burnout, heal from loss and traumatic experiences, and set boundaries in relationships, in both their personal and professional lives.
I help people cope with the everyday and exceptional challenges of life, experience less suffering, and engage more fully with the present moment. Therapy provides a unique relationship which gives you the opportunity to freely evaluate the thoughts and feelings you carry, particularly those that no longer serve you. My role is to help guide you towards your internal strengths, self-acceptance and trust.

Do you find yourself stuck in a pattern and don't know how to change? Do you find that your relationships are not working, or depression and anxiety are getting in the way of living a happy, healthy life? I see therapy as a way to answer the questions of "Why?" "Why do I make the choices I do?" "Why does this keep happening to me?"

20 years ago I began work in mental health as respite care. I later completed my professional goals of becoming a psychologist. It was always my goal to encourage hope and well being in the lives of others who may struggle to find their place. From the moment we are born we search for connection, love, and a sense of belonging. Growing up, in life this journey can be fraught with struggle, trauma, pain, and loss. But there is a silver lining. Amidst adversity we find courage and authenticity. We can find acceptance and the understanding of self compassion and empathy, that leads into true connection with ourselves and others.

At times anxiety, depression and/or trauma may impede an individual's natural ability to cope. I believe when a safe and supportive environment is created, individuals may openly explore their struggles and find healthier ways of coping. I have experience working with children, adolescents, adults and families with disabilities, neurodevelopmental disorders, and brain injury/stroke. For the past four years I have specialized in supporting sexual and gender minority children, youth, and families.

I firmly believe in the healing power of relationship and I strive to nurture my clients’ connection to loved ones and significant others. I believe that positive change starts with healthy individuals who then form healthy relationships and establish positive child-parent connections. These relationships give rise to healthy families and thriving communities. To me, empathy and compassion are at the heart of healthy connection and by creating a space for these qualities to flourish, we take the first steps toward healing.

There are many reasons why people pursue counselling. Some want to address specific problematic behaviours. Others, long-term difficulties that have not yet been resolved. Some want to find alternate ways to cope while others want to discover more about themselves in order to live life more authentically. Whatever your concern, it is a privilege to support your personal therapeutic goals on your own self-development journey. I am a Registered Psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychologists and a member of the Psychologists Association of Alberta.

At times we feel under a lot of intangible stress, and this creates an imbalance that wears out our normal coping skills. You are not alone. Feeling tired of being tired is the first step in reaching out to achieve and master a proper life balance. A life without the limits of our pre-conditioned and other based negative self talk paradigms. Life does involve more than survival and fighting- it involves joy and happiness. I can help you achieve this transformation.

Each individual has unique strengths and qualities, and my job is to help you connect with the inner strength that makes you resilient and prompts fruitful actions. I have thirteen years of experience helping individuals with depression, anxiety, stress, mood disorders, marital conflicts, workplace conflicts, and other issues. Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
