My training in
Emotionally Focused
Therapy, Narrative Therapy, CBT, and EMDR guide me in the work we will do in therapy together.
“We are relational beings" and we discover ourselves in our relationship to others. When these relationships don’t feel “secure”, we may feel alone or in pain, causing personal struggles to be more difficult. My experience in counselling those who face marital, family, and parenting struggles, offers ways to overcome the barriers that get in the way of reaching out to those you love. I offer my authenticity, a supportive place to reflect and discover new ways of viewing yourself to create positive change.

What I hear most from those who are struggling is that they desperately want change but they cannot see a clear path; they have been dealing with overwhelming symptoms for so long that suffering is part of their routine. Often this daily strain results in unhealthy coping mechanisms that compound the issues and amplify the symptoms. If this sounds like you, please know that you are not alone. Whether your suffering stems from relationship, parenting, interpersonal struggles, or unresolved past trauma, you have the capacity to heal, even when you feel that life is unbearable and change is out of reach.

You have unique thinking patterns, behaviours, beliefs, and ways of managing stressors, which all structure the way you live in this world. Over time, some of these may no longer serve you and/or may become less effective for many reasons. Through the therapy process, my hope is that I can work with you towards ongoing, meaningful growth and change. I will offer you the space to explore and work through your less than ideal circumstances, moving away from self-judgement, towards self-compassion and healing. When working with children and teens, I work collaboratively with caregivers to develop skills to support the areas of concern.

When I think about mental health, I like to compare it to the weather. Sometimes everything is good, at times we can tell a storm is brewing (problems starting), now and then we find ourselves in the middle of a massive storm, and other times we are cleaning up after a storm. No matter what the weather is like in your world, I am here to help you maintain the calm, navigate through the storm, or clean up after. My role is to help you develop and recognize the skills needed to ensure you can handle whatever weather (mental health issues) come your way.

Hi! I'm glad you're here. My name is Jessica and I'm a counselling psychology student who understands how difficult life's ups and downs can be. Asking for help and prioritizing your mental health is challenging, especially when it requires you to face the things you would much rather avoid. However, reaching out for professional care can help make it easier and more manageable. As a practicum intern, I work with diverse populations of youths, young-adults, and adults. I have experience and interest treating anxiety, depression, mood disorders, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and those going through life transitions.

Welcome and congratulations for taking a step forward to explore what therapy can do for you. Recognizing obstacles and reaching out for help and guidance can be scary, yet empowering, and you should feel pride in arriving at this stage. Perhaps you know exactly what is causing you distress or maybe you just do not feel right, either way, you deserve to be heard. I believe that every individual who seeks therapy should be heard and provided with help that is tailored to them and their needs. Therefore, I endeavour to maintain a collaborative relationship with my clients, ensuring it is mutually beneficial, safe, and productive.

Our world is ever-changing and demanding more of us each day. This can make us feel like we are falling behind and sinking into quicksand. When this happens, anxiety, stress, depression, panic, and other harmful feelings emerge. Society gives us the message that we should be able to deal with all of these things on our own and, worse yet, that our feelings are not even real. I am here to say your feelings are legitimate, that you count, and there is a way to work through them. Together we can create goals that work towards coping with daily activities and then thriving within your life. My service dog, Goliath, will also be there!

Emotionally Focused Counsellors
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is an approach to therapy that helps clients identify their emotions, learn to explore and experience them, to understand them and then to manage them. Emotionally Focused Therapy embraces the idea that emotions can be changed, first by arriving at or 'living' the maladaptive emotion (e.g. loss, fear or shame) in session, and then learning to transform it. Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples seeks to break the negative emotion cycles within relationships, emphasizing the importance of the attachment bond between couples, and how nurturing of the attachment bonds and an empathetic understanding of each others emotions can break the cycles.
