I enjoy working with both new and experienced parents who may be needing some support with parenting and building healthy attachments. I believe that in order to be present for our children, we need to ensure we take care of our own mental health as parents. I love to provide support to parents to help them flourish and embrace the parenting experience. The transition to parenthood, birth trauma, infant/toddler sleep, and postpartum anxiety are all areas of interest for me. I have my level one EMDR certificate and plan to take additional training specifically for EMDR with birth trauma and other maternal trauma.

Working together, we will seek to translate these experiences into growth and hope for the future. With over 30 years of experience, my skills and learning have developed through my work with those in conflict with the law including mental health and addictions (forensic psychiatry) and sexual trauma and violence. Being a helping professional has always been challenging, but these days it feels even harder. You feel stressed, overwhelmed, or exhausted. You're struggling to find the energy to spend on the things and people you love. Work-life balance sounds like a myth when you're simply trying to survive each day. Sound familiar? You are more than just your work - you deserve the same high quality care and support that you give to others. I support helping professionals struggling with occupational burnout and life stresses to reconnect with themselves, their relationships, and their lives so they can live with with greater purpose and peace.

Motherhood can be overwhelming and complex, bringing out your greatest strengths and highlighting your deepest struggles. Parenting can bring up attachment wounds and traumas, leaving you feeling dysregulated, lost, and alone. As a maternal mental health and attachment specialist, I compassionately support women to become more grounded and empowered, while finding connection and healing for themselves and their families. I work with clients to shift generational patterns, understand internalized pressures, become more present, and reclaim wellness for themselves and their families. You deserve to thrive, not just survive.

NEW. CLIENTS. WELCOME. A rough childhood, a bad relationship, or a soul sucking job taught you to get your feelings of worth from people pleasing. But it didn't work. You've spent your life giving to your spouse, children, parents or job. You thought this would make you happy, but now you may feel weighed down, resentful, overwhelmed, or always on the verge of tears. Maybe you feel depressed, unworthy, or like you're drowning. You've taken care of everyone except yourself. Feelings of unworthiness or fear of being selfish may be stopping you from giving yourself the care you’ve given to everyone else. But there is hope.

Sometimes in life we reach a point where we don’t know what the next step is. We might be feeling overwhelmed, self-critical, depressed, anxious, or stuck and all we know is that something needs to shift. It might not feel like we have time or energy to explore the challenges we are facing on our own. I believe that we all have the capacity to move towards self-compassion, growth, exploration and empowerment when provided the opportunity. As your therapist, my goal is to provide you a safe, respectful and non-judgmental space, where you are able to reconnect with yourself.

As a therapist, it's my role to hold the space for my clients to create meaningful and lasting change. In my experience, people will strive further, overcome great obstacles, and accomplish things they never thought possible when they have someone in their life who can understand where they've been, accept where they're at, and believe in their ability to achieve their greatest potential. This is what I call, 'holding the space.' In every session, I strive to create a comfortable environment that allows my clients to challenge old patterns and experiment with new ways of being.

Women's Issues Counsellors

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?

Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realised.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?

Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
