Emotional injuries and trauma can appear like any of these common experiences:
anger
issues, anxiety, depression, grief/sadness, burnout, feeling disappointed or disillusioned with life.
ARE TRAUMA AND EMOTIONAL INJURIES IMPACTING YOUR DAILY LIFE? The reality is, EVERY person has experienced some form of trauma or emotional injury. Whether it happened last week, last month or years ago, these events can leave us emotionally wounded, limit our perspective and stunt our growth and potential. Shame, guilt, sorrow,
anger
and resentment act as powerful undercurrents poisoning our ability to fulfill our hopes and dreams. Often the root of past trauma and emotional injury (either big or small events) are what poisons the potential for our future. Counselling releases you from the negative impact of trauma!

SMART therapy is ideal for children and teens who find it difficult to sit, regulate and focus, such as: ADHD & Oppositional Defiance Disorder, emotional and behavioral dysregulation, inability to accept help, low frustration tolerance & explosive
anger
.
In SMART therapy clients are directed to REGULATE through MOVEMENT and as a result START TALKING so problem solving and healing can happen. Therapy is provided in a specially designed room with specialized equipment, such as arial swings, spinning, weighted blankets, balance beams, fitness balls, person sized pea-pod, body socks, dolphin pillows, and safe cubby holes, and tents. Movement, rest and safety is used to support natural ways of regulating bodies and emotions, facilitate parent-child attachment-building and allow for embodied processing of hurtful and traumatic experiences. It is not at all like traditional play therapy.

As a therapist, one of my passions is working with individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, low self-esteem,
anger
, relationship issues, and suicidal ideation. Many people feel that they are alone in their struggles. I believe my role as your therapist is to remind you that you are not alone, normalize how you feel, and provide helpful tools along the way. My approach is solution focused, goal-oriented, strength-based, and trauma-informed. However, my main focus is building a strong therapeutic relationship that will help you feel safe, heard, and understood.

People have different needs in counselling - some want to be heard and make sense of their experiences, while others want to learn new skills to navigate individual or relationship problems. I work with people who want to improve their mental health or relationships. You might meet with me to process difficult experiences, cope with uncomfortable thoughts and feelings, or change something about your behaviour. You might have been asked to attend counselling by someone else, like a loved one or court. In this case, I will work to clarify what you want to improve and we can focus on this.

Hello! I am an attachment-oriented psychologist specializing in treating anxiety, stress, shame, trauma, and relationship concerns for adults and teenagers. My practice is grounded in the belief that we are all hard-wired for connection. I believe that psychological distress comes from experiences of disconnection (e.g., loneliness). We can experience disconnection from ourselves (e.g. shame) from others (e.g. distant), or from a lack of belongingness in the cultures that we live and work in. My practice focuses on helping equip my clients with tools for connection so that they can live more meaningful lives.

Connection to our authentic Self and to other’s authentic Selves is what helps us heal. I’m Brendon Olson, founder of New Connections Therapy where the motto is “Connect. Heal. Live.” I believe that symptoms of mental health and addiction may have some biological origins but are most often coming from well-meaning protector parts of us that are functioning to help us prevent or disconnect from our pain. I help you find your true, authentic Self so you can connect with and heal the pain and lead your well-meaning protector parts into taking healthier roles. I work with the internal system of your mind, not just your symptoms.

As a therapist, it's my role to hold the space for my clients to create meaningful and lasting change. In my experience, people will strive further, overcome great obstacles, and accomplish things they never thought possible when they have someone in their life who can understand where they've been, accept where they're at, and believe in their ability to achieve their greatest potential. This is what I call, 'holding the space.' In every session, I strive to create a comfortable environment that allows my clients to challenge old patterns and experiment with new ways of being.

Anger Management Counsellors
How long does therapy take for anger management?
Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.
How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?
Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.
Is there medication for anger management?
Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.
What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
