Being vulnerable with a stranger, even if they are your therapist, is often uncomfortable and scary! When starting therapy with me, I encourage people to share as much or as little as they feel comfortable. You are in charge of what we talk about during sessions. My goal is to create a compassionate, non-judgmental, and collaborative environment where we can talk about your life, struggles, and goals. I believe that everyone has the ability to make meaningful changes in their lives. Sometimes we need someone to add perspective, guide you through learning new tools, and/or just listen.

My passion for mental health was fostered during my teaching career when I realized I wanted to help the students and staff on a deeper level. I strongly believe that when people are given the time and space to understand what is happening within their mind and body, remarkable change can occur. In my career, I have had the opportunity to assist teens, adults, first responders and vets who have suffered from adverse traumatic events to regain their identity, heal past hurts, and discover the possibilities of their future.

I use evidence-based therapies including CBT, SFT, Narrative, and compassion- and mindfulness-based approaches within a trauma-informed framework.
Are you expecting a child and worried about what life will look like? Or maybe you’re hoping to start a family, but feel stuck in the exhausting cycle of fertility testing and uncertainty. Parenthood can also bring new challenges—you may feel overstimulated, stretched thin, or triggered by old wounds, making it hard to be present.
Perhaps the invisible to-do list might start the moment you wake up. And if you identify as BIPOC, cultural dynamics can add another layer of stress. Over time, this can leave you feeling sad, anxious, or disconnected from the version of yourself you want to be.

You’re standing in the aftermath of betrayal. Maybe you’ve been betrayed and your sense of safety feels shattered: your mind replaying questions you never wanted to ask. Or maybe you’re the one who strayed, carrying shame, confusion, and the weight of what you’ve caused. You want clarity. You want your feet back under you. You’re trying to understand what happened, what this means, and what your next step should be: whether that’s moving toward reconciliation or finding the courage to choose a different path.

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.
When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behaviour through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.
What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviours and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.
Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioural habits.
