You may feel exhausted all of the time and overwhelmed with no time for you. You might have trouble sleeping and no longer feel like yourself anymore, but you don’t know why. You are tired of going through the motions and fear nothing will change. You experience conflict or a lack of closeness in your relationship. Your arguments go on and on without getting resolved leaving you feeling lonely and further apart. You feel hurt, or a sense of numbness about your relationship. You wonder if you’ll ever have a fulfilling relationship. You’ve had enough troubled relationships. You’re tired of hurting and struggling.

Stop feeling overwhelmed, start slowing down and feeling like you have room to breathe. Have the life you thought you would have. People see you has someone who has everything together. What they don't see is the toll it takes. You care for everyone else first and have high standards for everything you do. It used to feel good to be able to keep everything running smoothly for everyone. Now, it's starting to make you feel stressed and resentful. You notice you're overreacting, or reacting explosively, then the shame hits. Rather than coping strategies that really work, you choose short term fixes that provide relief in harmful ways.

I have a special interest in marriage/relationship counselling as well as working with individuals ages 14+. While my formal education and on-going training provides a strong foundation for working with clients of all ages, it is my relationship with my partner and parenting our teenagers (18 and 15) that greatly influences me as a counsellor and allows me to better understand the ups and downs that accompany relationships and parenting.

I offer creative and somatic approaches (which include Art Therapy and EMDR) for individuals and groups from a you-centered, feminist lens.
Reaching out for therapy is courageous. Showing up is enough! I can additionally offer empathy, non-judgmental compassionate care, recommendations, resources and skills to enhance your therapeutic journey. I will assist you in exploring challenges creatively through processing unresolved trauma, learning how to trust yourself, discovering your inner resources, understanding and meeting your needs, and in setting boundaries that align with your needs, goals, and values. My hope above all, is to meet you where you are at, in the pace that works for you, so you feel safe, understood and heard.

Hi! My name is Heather. I am a highly intuitive person. Often trauma, loss, or stress and illness gets in the way of accessing our deepest wisdom. Thankfully, by healing our root issues, we can begin to access our wisdom. Do you ruminate, are you feeling like something is not quite right, or are you an empath struggling to hold your boundaries? In my work with my clients, I use somatic practices and depth hypnosis. These approaches go “beyond talk therapy” to help you heal. I have been a counsellor/ Master’s Social Worker and Yoga Therapis for + 20 years. I love that I get to support my clients in the process of transformation.

I believe we’re all doing our best to make it work in a world that teaches isolation and self-reliance when we are wired for safe connection and secure dependence. You may be stuck feeling lonely, isolated, and empty, or maybe you’ve suffered through a difficult relationship, an impossible loss, or in securing a sense of belonging in the world. Through somatically-rooted psychodynamic counselling, we’ll focus on integrating the competing parts of you that fuel your tensions. Using parts-work, metaphor, and somatic practice, we’ll get curious about the patterns you’ve developed to survive.

I believe in genuine connection with my clients, and I use an approach centred on relationships, bringing in techniques based on Gestalt, Bowen’s Family Systems Theory, Transpersonal Psychology, AEDP, Somatic, and Experiential Therapy (among others).
As a therapist specializing in trauma-informed care and a Health & Wellness Coach, my focus is on cultivating confidence, self-awareness, and empowerment in my clients. Whether through a light-hearted approach or a deeper exploration, I strive to enhance understanding of the emotions that shape the narratives we construct about ourselves and the world. I encourage clients to view their lives through intentional lenses, prompting reflection on how their choices and perspectives align with their goals and values.

I offer a unique combination of somatic psychotherapy (Deep Brain Reorienting, Natural Processing, IBP) and/or Neurotherapy, to support you in shifting out of old stuck coping patterns.
You are searching for answers, perhaps stuck, and may feel a bit lost about how to find your way forward. You can be sensitive, intense, and passionate and you're interested in living from a place of aliveness, well-being, and spark. You may have a history of trauma, suffering, and loss and yet you are also a survivor. I look forward to working with you, attending to both the suffering and the resilience, the loss and the grace; to listening to and affirming the melody within your words. I work with several provisional and registered psychologists at Foothills Integrative Psychology and Neurotherapy. How can we help?

I typically use narrative, expressive arts, and somatic (body-based) approaches.
Accepting new clients! My name is Erin (she/they), I'm an AuDHD (autistic + ADHD) therapist, and I'm passionate about neurodiversity-affirming therapy because I've seen the difference it can make to have someone "get it" beyond the textbook. Maybe you're late diagnosed and now are looking for someone to help make your life more ADHD/Autistic-friendly or you've just found it hard to connect with support from a neurotypical lens - know that you're not alone! Whether you're looking for skills, or support for the chronic social trauma many of us experience as neurodivergent folks, or just someone to support your unmasking, I can help!

Drawing from various theoretical orientations, including Somatic Experiencing, Emotion Focused Therapy, family of origin, and Cognitive-Behavioral, we will work collaboratively to develop and integrate a treatment approach tailored to your needs and goals.
I work Sundays and evenings as well as weekdays. I believe in the resilience of the human spirit and our ability to heal. I also know that we can get lost, and having someone support us as we navigate our path back to health can be life-changing. Therapy can be scary, and you may not be sure where to start. That is a shared experience, and together we will work to put the presenting problem into words and create a plan for our work. If you have made it this far in your search, you are looking for something. Even if you can not put it into words, I invite you to book a session.

The main theoretical approaches I draw from include person-centered, solution focused, DBR, attachment, somatic, CBT, narrative, DBT, and mindfulness.
Evening and weekend availability - We can all feel lost and overwhelmed by our emotions or get stuck in patterns of unhelpful thoughts and behaviours - when all we really crave is connection, support, and tools to help us show up more peacefully for ourselves and others. My experience is primarily with teenagers and adults facing challenges related to anxiety, stress, depression, interpersonal relationships, grief and loss, self-worth, & challenging life transitions. Together, we can explore how to help you gain better insight and overcome the barriers that are preventing you from accessing your authentic self.

Somatic Counsellors

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
