I have a special interest in PTSD, complex and developmental trauma and have many years of experience supporting people with grief , complicated grief and traumatic grief .
You are searching for answers, perhaps stuck, and may feel a bit lost about how to find your way forward. You can be sensitive, intense, and passionate and you're interested in living from a place of aliveness, well-being, and spark. You may have a history of trauma, suffering, and loss and yet you are also a survivor. I look forward to working with you, attending to both the suffering and the resilience, the loss and the grace; to listening to and affirming the melody beneath your words. I work with several provisional and registered psychologists at Foothills Integrative Psychology and Neurotherapy. How can we help?

Grief is a Natural Experience. Hello! I am a holistic grief specialist. I am not your typical grief counsellor. I help adult Albertan’s connect to their mind, body, spirit and life again after a death , loss or life change. Grief is also unique in how each person experiences it. Grief can be chaotic, overwhelming, isolating and sometimes leaving you feeling you have little control of your mind, body and life. Having both personal and professional experience with death , loss and unpredictable changes, allows me to be thoughtful about the importance of a safe space to share your raw emotions, thoughts and story of loss .

Are you feeling overwhelmed? Do you feel stuck or are struggling, either personally or professionally? Do you want to move forward but don't know how? Whether you've experienced a one time event or a series of longer term challenges, you deserve care and support as these difficulties can accumulate and keep us from living the life we want. Other areas where I have expertise and experience include addictions, female sexual dysfunction (including working with couples in this area), and grief and loss .
Are you struggling with eating habits and frustrated that nothing is working? Do you yo-yo diet, wearing yourself out emotionally and physically? Or do you find yourself restricting what you eat without knowing why, or how to stop? Food and eating are a part of our culture that often become warped and distorted. Whether you have internalized messages that state that you have to be a certain size to have value, or you feel like food allows you to numb out, constant thoughts about food and body image can be exhausting.

Grief Counsellors

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
