I am here to help people realize the impacts of trauma on their thoughts, feelings, beliefs and behaviours, and to help each person grow past the pain into their own definition of wholeness.
Currently I am only accepting new clients from existing contracts (police, fire and medical staff). However, other therapists in my clinic, MindScape Psychology, are accepting a full range of clientele. My job is to walk alongside people who have suffered psychological or moral injury in their line of work. Together we work to seek relief from the ripple effects of trauma, depression, anxiety and addiction and to build the future they want for themselves.

I have worked with a variety of people including: soldiers, trauma survivors, seniors, farmers, young adults, teens, teachers, and adults with the imprint of childhood neglect and abuse that continues to haunt them.
Are you feeling like there are patterns in your life that hold you back? Have you been working hard to find the happiness that you always dreamed of, and it doesn't seem to matter how hard you try, you just can't seem to get there? Perhaps, you have broken free of unhealthy environments or unhealthy experiences, yet you still have an emptiness you can't seem to fill. Or you experience depression, anxiety, PTSD or other diagnosable mental health concerns. Creating your happiness is possible. Sometimes it just takes a person with some professional distance from your situation and therapeutic skill to help you find your way forward.

By using a straightforward approach I work with adolescents and adults to help figure out how to deal with those overwhelming feelings, heal from past trauma, and manage the day to day stress.
You’re overwhelmed, burnt out and struggling with the stressors of day to day life. You’re trying to juggle all your responsibilities, taking care of others when all you want to do is lay down because life feels out of control. Some days you are so over stimulated that you need the noise to stop so you can just think. Wanting to let go of the hurt from the past so you can move forwards. Saying “I am NOT okay!” is the hardest and most important step in taking control of your life and pushing yourself to heal and move forwards towards the life you've dreamed of and deserve!

I am an EMDR Certified Therapist who is primarily working with adults in recovery from PTSD, relational trauma, women in recovery, and those who are seeking EMDR therapy.
How do you know if it’s the right time for counselling and EMDR therapy? Consider your answers to the following questions: Are my basic needs met (? Am I ok being uncomfortable/change? Can I commit to attending regular sessions as recommended and making consistent changes in my daily life)? Am I experiencing any of the following: Feeling overwhelmed, too much or too little sleep & eating, isolating yourself from family and friends, feeling a disconnection from joy, and feelings of hopelessness or apathy? EMDR therapy and counselling could be your next best step.

With a specific focus on trauma, my role is to support people in discovering their purpose and find hope through the healing process.
Are you looking to speak with someone about your current struggles? Want someone who is caring, compassionate, and non-judgemental, maybe even someone who will challenge you to meet your goals in counselling and to think about things with a different perspective? Perhaps someone to help guide you out of the pain you are experiencing? I believe counselling is a collaborative relationship, it's about creating change, and it's about self-exploration. I also believe the counselling relationship is meant to honour you, guide you, and empower you. It is important to find a counsellor that "fits" with you!

While my areas of focus are anxiety, trauma, and identity work, I tend to connect well with neurodivergent folks and those who have always felt a bit different from others.
It's been a tough few years for everyone and it seems like the daily pressures we all face are exponentially growing. If you’re curious about meeting a new counsellor, or therapy in general, I can offer a soft place to land. If you feel lonely, unseen or disconnected, or struggle with your mental health, you are not alone, and a little support can go a long way. Anxiety, depression, perfectionism, trauma, grief, and strained relationships are challenges I support. We have a creative and rich variety of tools to draw from to support your needs; IFS, CBT, EMDR, narrative or art therapy are just a few.

Welcome to Sunburst Counselling. What is trauma? Trauma is linked to a memory of an event that sticks within your mind and body. It can result from falling off of a bike, a car accident, sexual assault, other forms of abuse, critical workplace incidents or anything at all that happens to you that was out of your control. Unresolved trauma can result in anxiety, depression, stress, PTSD, C-PTSD or chronic pain, all of which can greatly impact your ability to function. When you lose your ability to function, you may experience a decrease in self-esteem, self-worth and self-confidence all of which will impact your core sense of self.

I am a Registered Psychologist and have worked in the counselling field since 2009. I work with individual adults and specialize in treating trauma, depression and anxiety (including prenatal/postnatal experiences). All of my experience has led me to understand that no matter what issues people are facing, in order to truly heal, individuals need a respectful, understanding, and non-judgmental listener that is grounded and balanced in their own right. This is what I offer clients in addition to my extensive education and training.

Trauma and PTSD Counsellors

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
