There is not a script for parenting , pregnancy, relationships, life.
From a young age I have had a desire to hear people's stories and have loved to connect with children and more recently parents and women who are pregnant. It has always fascinated me to learn about family dynamics and it has become my passion to be able to work alongside families.

Raising a young child with emotional or behavioural challenges is overwhelming, and can leave you feeling like you are failing as a parent .
Do you struggle to manage your child's big emotions or challenging behaviours? Or has your child been diagnosed with ADHD, ODD, Anxiety, or some other emotional or behavioural difficulty? You may hope that it's just a phase, or that the behaviours will get better as your child matures, but the reality is that, unaddressed, emotional and behaviour challenges in young children typically continue through childhood, adolescence, and beyond, with much greater consequences and resistance to interventions. Now is the time to address your child's behavioural challenges head-on.

Motherhood can be overwhelming and complex, bringing out your greatest strengths and highlighting your deepest struggles. Parenting can bring up attachment wounds and traumas, leaving you feeling dysregulated, lost, and alone. As a maternal mental health specialist, my goal is to compassionately support women to become more grounded and empowered, while finding connection and healing for themselves and their families. I work with clients to shift generational patterns, understand internalized pressures, become more present, and reclaim wellness for themselves and their families. You deserve to thrive, not just survive.

Are you a parent looking for support for your child or teen? Is their anxiety, anger, experience with separation, grief or self-esteem eating away at them or making home life hard? Do they seem overwhelmed or shut down and not themselves? You may find yourself thinking about it all the time, researching tools to try, asking for advice from friends and family, wondering if what you're doing is enough, and even whether they are going to be able to move past this. If this is what you are feeling you are not alone. Many parents feel overwhelmed, worry about their kids future, and wish to make their troubles go away.

In addition to extensive training, my work is shaped by my own life experience, including separation/divorce, blended family life, grief/loss, parenting and major life transitions.
“We’re all too vulnerable to face the hugeness of life alone. It doesn’t make sense to do that… we need each other” (Sue Johnson). I believe that meaningful connection with ourselves and others is central to our wellbeing. Unfortunately, painful past experiences and unhelpful patterns can sometimes get in the way. Relationship struggles can erode our self-worth and leave us feeling anxious, depressed, exploited, and alone. They can also create ripples that disrupt other important parts of our lives – our health, work, and kids. You're here because you’re wanting change. I'm here to provide a safe space for your journey to change.

Parenting Counsellors

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
