My approach to EMDR is through an attachment-based lens.
As a Registered Psychologist, I enjoy working with individuals (18+) who want to learn how to live more balanced and fulfilling lives and improve their emotional well being. I offer help for dealing with depression, anxiety, grief and loss, phobias, and past traumas. With a wealth of life experience to inform my practice, my approaches to therapy include standard interventions such as CBT in addition to more mindfulness- and body-based therapies such as Somatic Experiencing. I am an EMDR Certified Therapist with the EMDR International Association.

I ensure treatment is trauma-informed and use evidence-based treatment modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Gorman Method Couples Therapy and attachment-based principles.
You are the expert in your own life and I believe that a positive and supportive therapeutic relationship can help create the change you are looking for. When working with you, I bring my authentic and fully-engaged self to help you feel heard, valued, and respected. It is an immense privilege to enter the stories of other people’s lives and I feel deeply honored to do so. It is important for me to tailor treatment and interventions specific to each of your unique and individual needs, and so wholehearted listening and understanding to each unique story, experience, and situation is vital.

Unlike many people in private practice, my practice focuses specifically on supporting people to heal from trauma. When we think of "trauma", many of us often think of significant events that cause difficulties with coping. However, the experience of trauma is much more than an event. The experience of abuse, neglect or living with prolonged exposure to stress can have a significant impact on physical, emotional and spiritual health. I work with trauma that can occur from single events as well as exposure to trauma over a longer period of time. I use a number of modalities to address the complex nature of trauma.

Life and healing are like a spiral. We walk it, holding the experiences life hands us (suffering, joy, and everything in between) with an invitation to grow, heal, and become our best self. I walk the spiral of my own life lead by heart and intuition, and I work with people in the same way. Healing is a sacred journey into self discovery and holding space for your process of discovery in counselling, it is my goal to support you. I am passionate about understanding your story and working collaboratively with you. I am a Canadian Certified Counsellor (ccc designation) with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association.

Attachment-based Counsellors

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
