Emotions provide us with a rich source of information about our basic needs. However, growing up many of us were taught to avoid emotions, which makes getting our needs met in adulthood difficult. There are also times when our emotions are not helpful. For instance, when emotions bring up memories of past negative experiences. These unpleasant emotions can endure long after the situation has ended and be so intense and overwhelming that it can make current functioning difficult. Painful emotions are difficult to express and feel, however, once these emotions are out in the open, healing can occur.

At Family Counselling Centres we recognize that therapy cannot be a one size fits all approach. Every individual is unique in how they respond to therapy. Accordingly, we utilize play therapy, animal assisted (horse and dog) therapy, EMDR, art therapy, filial therapy, sand play therapy, and traditional psychotherapy to provide clients with comprehensive care. We treat children, teens, adults, and families using both traditional and non-traditional therapies. We believe that people can live up to their full potential if a nurturing environment is available-- this is why we put such a strong focus on the family.

I am a Registered Provisional Psychologist dedicated to helping individuals on their path to well-being, with the goal of helping each client thrive socially, emotionally, psychologically, and intellectually. I bring a passion for helping others navigate life’s challenges and uncovering their inherent and inner strengths. My previous experience providing mental health services to diverse clientele across the province of Alberta has shown me the importance of acknowledging each client’s distinctive journey. Psychotherapy is not always an easy undertaking, and I believe that it should honor both your dignity and humanity.

Everyone has the innate capacity to heal and transform. I see my task as offering a safe, skilled and authentic relational space in which that might occur. I offer a highly individualized and integrative approach to help you bring more balance, resilience, meaning and flourishing into your life - to call forth and nurture your true potential. I have over 15 years of experience in individual, couple and group counselling and have worked with all age groups and with many different mental health issues and challenges. However, I see everyone as completely unique and needing their own particular co-created path to healing.

Change can be scary but even small changes can make a big difference. I offer you a safe space where change can happen at your own pace & where you can bring your problems, fears or pain to work through in a supportive environment. The addiction, stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, phobia, etc., can be the initial thing that brings you into therapy, but we won’t just put a band-aid on the symptom. We will get to the underlying root of the problem & heal it where it started. I use the word “we” because it is a collaborative venture, we work together to create change. I work with both individuals & couples. (Ask me about EMDR).

Trauma doesn’t just affect the mind—it can consume every part of you, leaving you feeling lost. Whether from assault, combat, medical trauma, or accidents, the aftermath can leave deep wounds. Anxiety, depression, flashbacks, nightmares, and exhaustion can weigh you down. Relationships can suffer, and emotions like fear, anger, and sadness can overwhelm you at unexpected moments. But you’re not losing control. These are the painful effects of trauma—and with evidence-based treatment, healing is not just possible—it’s within your reach.

It is my belief that therapy is both a dialogue and collaborative relationship between the therapist and their clients. I aim to establish a safe, trusting and encouraging environment for my clients. However, I also strive towards building resiliency, raising self awareness and connecting my clients to a greater sense of community. I enjoy working with clients from all age groups (children, adolescents and adults). I have been offering therapeutic services in the community for 6 years.

Sometime people get "stuck" and are not sure where to turn. I work together with clients to get "unstuck." I mainly work with women who are experiencing stress, anxiety, or depression. I also do some work in reprocessing past abuses / trauma/ or negative past experiences, but the main focus is on making some positive changes in your life.

In this journey of life, we experience all kinds of events both positive and negative. As humans, we are equipped with unique strengths and resources that shape our resiliency when it comes to healing, changing, growing, and adapting. We may experience problems because of a disruption (internal or external) to our daily functioning, which can impact how we feel, how we think, and/or how we behave. This can result to feeling a loss of control and autonomy over our lives. A central tenant to my approach in counselling is social justice which means supporting my clients to empower themselves: regaining power over their lives.
