Our clients struggle with personal and marital issues such as depression, anxiety, addiction and abuse. They are worried about familial disruption and impact, especially when concerning their children. Some of the major stressors are mental illness, financial, divorce, family conflict, and child behavioural issues. Some fear to seek help, due to repercussions from family members and fear of losing their children. Most people we work with, want to protect and keep their family intact. They also want to ease their pain and lead a happier life. They want to gain support without adding additional stressor to themselves or their family.

Welcome! I'm Kristie. Struggling to cope with everyday life doesn't look the same for everyone. You may feel overwhelming stress, anxiety, depression, low self worth and/or lack of purpose. I want you to know, that you don't have to go through it alone. As a part of my own lived experiences and life’s purpose, I feel called to support others. It is important for me to embody an authentic and empathic approach when connecting with people. I know that seeking support when you are suffering can be a difficult choice. I am honored when individuals allow me the opportunity to journey alongside them in working through hard stuff.

I believe that you are the expert of your own life and that you have an innate knowledge of what will help you grow and heal. I view therapy as a collaborative process in which you bring knowledge about your life and I bring knowledge about counselling; together, we do therapy. Part of my job is to meet you where you’re at and to have the flexibility to help you get where you want to go. For this reason, I have sought training in various therapeutic approaches, including narrative and somatic approaches to therapy.

Hi! I work with individuals of all ages and their families. My approach to therapy is relational, meaning that I prioritize developing a strong working relationship with you to assist and guide you as you work toward your desired outcomes. I incorporate aspects of feminist and narrative therapies, through which we can explore how personal and cultural narratives may influence your mental health and well-being. I work with folks who experience distress in many forms including anxiety, depression, stress, burnout, trauma, self-esteem, boundaries, grief, and anything else that you want to explore and understand about yourself.

Are you someone who knows how you want to eat but get stuck somewhere between what you want to put into your mouth and what you actually put into your mouth? Do you see your relationship to food as an emotional expression of what is going on inside of you? I support my clients in getting in touch with their physical hunger cues and then the emotional, spiritual hungers that arise as a result. I have been there. I've done retreats on my eating and my master's thesis on how we use our body to express internal struggles.

I specialize in Women's Mental Health and love working with moms. Stress and anxiety are at an all time high and moms are telling me they're exhausted and overwhelmed with the mental load. They've been isolated in navigating fertility challenges, pregnancy, the birth of children and post-partum. They're parenting with few supports and often have kids who are struggling too. They've had to deal with difficult dynamics at work and in their personal lives, are coping with a multitude of losses and are dealing with past or present traumas. Reach out if you can relate and we'll work together to help make life more manageable right now.

We all desire a life where we're not struggling with anxiety, grief and loss, PTSD, trauma, setting healthy boundaries, anger, perfectionism, shame and guilt etc. Sometimes we feel no one understands! These are normal human struggles and there is no shame in talking to a professional. We seek help from doctors for physical health so why not for mental health? Healing the body, also requires healing the mind. I am also an EFT (Tapping) practitioner and I love EFT work since it has consistently been shown to be of great benefit, either as a stand-alone therapy or in addition to other modalities. Time to talk, tap or tap and talk? YES

Are you a "big feeler"? Have you always been considered emotional or sensitive? Big feelers are often filled with worries about the future and overwhelmed by the present. You might spend a lot of time dealing with racing thoughts and fears. It's difficult to feel like you're living a secret life where no one knows how much you struggle. You might even feel like no one really knows you. You might wish you could just turn your brain off for a while and not feel so deeply impacted by everything.

Being a helping professional has always been challenging, but these days it feels even harder. You feel stressed, overwhelmed, or exhausted. You're struggling to find the energy to spend on the things and people you love. Work-life balance sounds like a myth when you're simply trying to survive each day. Sound familiar? You are more than just your work - you deserve the same high quality care and support that you give to others. I support helping professionals struggling with occupational burnout and life stresses to reconnect with themselves, their relationships, and their lives so they can live with with greater purpose and peace.

Everyone struggles sometimes. Life can be overwhelming, and no one should need to navigate it alone. We all deserve dignity and respect by being seen and heard. I work hard to hold space for my clients and offer them tools and strategies that create positive change in their lives. I am deeply empathetic and take a dynamic approach to support clients in accomplishing their goals. I see your strengths and want to help foster empowerment to overcome challenges. I do not define my client’s goals for them. Rather, I guide them through a process that supports their autonomy and grows self-determination.

I aim to be an unusual therapist. I harness imagination, energy, enthusiasm, poetry, and humour in my effort to understand your story and elevate your voice. Whether you are considering the past, the present, or the future, I believe that therapeutic conversations can expand the options, responses, and actions we have available to us and help us to recognize our opportunity to be active agents in our own lives- or the protagonist of our own story! I get excited about this and do not hold back this excitement as you move closer to your goals.

Women's Issues Counsellors

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?

Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realised.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?

Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
