I excel at assisting clients with gender dysphoria /identity/sexual orientation.
I believe clients have the inherent ability to create change. It takes courage to step forth and request support which leads to strength and a desire to create new ways of being. Through a meaningful and collaborative therapeutic relationship, I provide a safe and inclusive space for clients to grow and reach their desired potential and authentic self. I provide support to individuals/families that are experiencing challenges/changes within their lives (i.e., gender dysphoria /identity, sexual orientation, anxiety, depression, internalized homophobia/transphobia, coming to terms/coming out, trauma, self-harming, suicidal ideation).

Do you wake up, wanting to stay in bed, asking yourself "what's the point", feel stuck, alone, overwhelmed, worried, stressed, nervous, and/or depressed? Maybe thinking to yourself, I'm not good enough or I am a failure. You have barriers in your life that may have caused some of the thoughts and symptoms above such as a recent grief, loss, or past childhood event that still lingers in your mind and sets you back. If you are looking something different, better, or more, we can work together on creating a plan that will help guide you, support you, and increase hope for a better functioning, healthier, and happier life.

I'm a good fit for people who are seeking affirmation and encouragement. Therapy can be a space to work on building the life you want, taking new steps: coming out, being authentic, shedding harmful ideas, changing relationships with family members, improving your relationships, building your community. Many of my clients have connections to LGBTQ and two-spirit communities and issues. You have the wisdom of your own experience. As a therapist I am a safe partner in gaining confidence, stating your needs and working towards your goals. I work with individuals and couples, adults and teens (and their parents).

I believe the quality of the therapeutic relationship is crucial to the effectiveness of psychotherapy. My goal as therapist is to establish a relationship with my client that will allow me to effectively understand them in a nonjudgmental way and challenge them to grow and gain new perspective. I seek to be emotionally present, authentic, respectful, open, honest, and deeply empathic. In building on my client's existing inner strengths, they are empowered to seek and make the changes needed to live full and satisfying lives.

At times anxiety, depression and/or trauma may impede an individual's natural ability to cope. I believe when a safe and supportive environment is created, individuals may openly explore their struggles and find healthier ways of coping. I have experience working with children, adolescents, adults and families with disabilities, neurodevelopmental disorders, and brain injury/stroke. For the past four years I have specialized in supporting sexual and gender minority children, youth, and families.

Whatever road brought you to this page, welcome. I'm glad you are here. Do you feel lost or disconnected from yourself? Would you like to take steps to live a more authentic life? Do you want others to get to know the real you? Maybe you are wanting out of the closet, out of the shadows, or to have a space to explore your identity, sexuality or relationships. You might also be looking for a gender affirming therapist to support your journey as you begin or continue your transition. I take a holistic and anti-oppressive approach to mental health, and believe we all have the potential to grow, rewire our brains and heal.

Do you want to feel more connected to your partner? Do small arguments turn into big blowouts? Do you need to rebuild trust so you can move forward? Passionate, fulfilling, and once-thriving relationships get "stuck" sometimes and partners shut down, become defensive, or passive-aggressive. Many of us lacked examples of healthy relationships in our childhood and this is reflected in our current relationships. But relationships can become “unstuck” when partners gain a deeper understanding of one another and learn healthy communication to reduce conflict.

You feel overwhelmed and defeated. Regardless of how hard you try, you feel like you aren’t good enough. You struggle to live up to the expectations that you have for yourself and that everyone seems to have for you. These feelings may show up in your relationships with partner(s), family, or friends; in your career; or even in how you relate to your body. Maybe the seeds of self-doubt were planted by a well-meaning person in your life. Maybe they come from your social media feed or societal expectations to be perfect. You wish you could let go of the pressure and live a more fulfilling and authentic life.

Stress can impact the whole person and trauma can turn one’s world upside down. Sexual and physical assault, combat, medical traumas or serious accidents are all examples of traumatic events that can cause an array of distressing symptoms. Anxiety, depression, flashbacks, nightmares along with nausea, and chronic fatigue are common and can wreak havoc on relationships. Sometimes feelings of horror, anger, sadness can seem to come out of nowhere making people feel like they are going “crazy.” But they are not. These are symptoms of trauma, and specialized evidence base treatment can help.

Whether it's mental health or neurodivergency, relationship challenges or family conflicts that are adding to your struggles, I can be of therapeutic support to you. My hope is to help you begin to fill your cup before spilling out, or gently wipe up the mess if it already has. I'll provide you the education to understand why you're feeling the way you do and a safe space to express it. I also support you to communicate with those in your life who are struggling to understand how to help. In working with me, you'll finally let out a breath that's been stuck in your chest for far too long.

I work with clients ages 16 and up, online and in-person. I welcome your whole self in our sessions, including intersectional identities, contradictions, uncertainty, and tender feelings. I also welcome people who are hesitant about seeing a counsellor, or who’ve had difficult experiences accessing mental health support in the past. My aim is for our sessions to be an empowering experience for you. My practice is influenced by creativity and the arts, and I seek to accompany people in healing according to their own values, and through experiences of dignity and possibility.

Are you or a loved one struggling with mental health and addictions issues? Perhaps self harm or suicidal thoughts? Need a safe space to work through your gender & sexuality or history of trauma? A parent or an adult child fighting to be understood? I've helped thousands like you as a Mental Health and Addictions Counsellor for the past 20 years, and as a first-gen immigrant parent that understands intergenerational and systemic challenges. I'm trained in many evidence-based treatment modalities (DBT, Mindfulness, ACT, Grief & Loss) but it is my relatable approach that brings ease to clients wary of taking the first step.

As a queer therapist, I understand the challenges of finding inclusive support and the transformative effects of collaborative therapy. I believe the most powerful aspect of therapy is a therapeutic partnership that learns and grows together. This means that I will bring my whole self into our work together and join you in your exploration and identify the things that matter to you. Healing and growth happen in the presence of safety and being truly seen and understood. I offer an anti-oppressive, queer, intersectional, and social justice approach to counselling.
