Psychodynamic therapy (insight-oriented therapy) focuses on understanding unconscious processes.
I am a registered psychologist with a master’s degree in counselling and over 15 years of experience working in mental health. Previously, I worked as an occupational therapist and certified yoga instructor. My diversified training and background allows me to bring a holistic approach to the therapeutic process. My primary therapeutic modalities include Psychodynamic and Attachment based therapy, however, when required I will adapt the way I work with clients based on their individual needs. As well as working with individuals, families and groups, I have a special interest in working with couples.

I am here to offer couples and Individuals my guidance into what we are beyond the psychological structures and past traumas. My educational background, and 22 years of professional experience, draws from various therapeutic traditions and methods such as the cognitive,(CBT), systemic, (IFS), psychodynamic and existential, but it is the deeper and transpersonal perspective and approach that has my heart; It is about growing a loving awareness of yourself, your inner self, and what is beyond the self; to tap into a greater sense of our connectedness with everything, to be at home inside, and to build our life in that.

Sliding scale available! My approach is to build a container of safety, compassion, and empowerment, in which we can work together to holistically digest challenging experiences, honour your internal wisdom, develop personalized skill sets and goals, re-write narratives that no longer serve you, and expand windows of comfortability so that you can live your most meaningful life. Utilizing an integrative lens, my practice draws from training in somatic, attachment, psychodynamic, transpersonal, ACT, and parts-based therapies (IFS and Jungian informed) to provide care that is nuanced, creative, and culturally/scientifically-informed.

I am certified in attachment and trauma and use an integrative approach blending psychodynamic, emotionally focused and cognitive behavioural therapy.
As adults, we are often called to a process of unlearning and undoing on our journey toward internal fulfillment, happiness and peace. If you feel lost, hopeless and engulfed by life's challenges, you are not alone and in the right place. It starts with choosing to embark on the healing journey, find happiness, and cultivate the life you genuinely desire. They say pain can be our greatest teacher, and I can assist you with the tools and support as you embark on your journey of personal transformation and self-discovery.

Psychological interventions are a way to understand, and change problematic behaviours and relationships that impede a person's development. I see the maladaptive patterns that people become embroiled in as knots, and psychotherapy as a way for people to untie the emotional knots they find themselves in. My approach is psychodynamic in orientation which means how to fundamentally change the negative patterns we continually make across multiple relationships. My particular skill is in working with and helping you to understand the emotional relationships people engage in and how these can have negative and positive consequences

I use CBT, EMDR, Hypnotherapy, Insight, Mindfulness, Body- centered and Psychodynamic therapies.
Often times in life we can experience personal challenges. These challenges can include losses and trauma. They can leave us feeling anxious or depressed. Counselling can help one make sense of what they have been through. Times of struggle and loss can force us to look inward to re evaluate what has meaning for us and perhaps find out what is our purpose. I have experience working with CAF, First Responders and Vets, as well as people who have experienced childhood trauma. What ever the challenge we can work together to help you heal and come into wholeness.

My training includes psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioural, solution-focused, trauma-informed, expressive arts, dialectical behavioural therapies, systemic models, EMDR and brain-spotting.
Many things in our lives are on a continuum, including the intensity of the problem, resilience, resourcefulness, and healing. Sometimes we need more guidance and help than other times, and sometimes we feel that we can manage on our own. The striving to heal or cope at our best may be subtle or more apparent in our lives, which helps to realize that change is needed, contemplate it, and act. My approach to psychotherapy is integrative, eclectic, and trauma-informed.

I use a person-centered framework while drawing from acceptance and commitment therapy, psychodynamic, existentialist and attachment-based approaches.
Hey! I'm Christopher, an intern psychologist at Strathearn Psychology. I work with teens, adults, couples and families dealing with a variety of concerns. I value flexibility, accountability and fun. I strive to meet you - wherever you are in life's journey, whether you wish to dive deep and wade through the darkness or if you just want a tune up and need some immediate tools. Additionally, I aim to hold you accountable to your goals, hopes, and dreams in our work together. Lastly, I believe the journey is about progress over perfection, which can be a lot more fun when we are able to exhale and share a few laughs along the way.

I am a Psychodynamic Psychotherapist https://psychodynamiccanada.
Sometimes our thoughts and feelings become unmanageable without help. Anxiety, stress and depression are just some of the ways our mind tells us that something isn't right, or the ways we've coped in the past aren't quite working as well as they did. Change can be unsettling and distressing, but it can also be healing, fulfilling and hopeful. I provide a therapeutic space that is safe, warm and engaging where you can engage in your process, at whatever pace you need.

If you are looking to gain a deeper satisfaction in life, and create a lasting change that will have a trickle down effect into the rest of your life I may be a great fit for you. Together we will work to overcome barriers (PTSD, anxiety, OCD, depression, marital/family difficulties, and existential issues) that are standing in your way of a more joyful life. I have specialized training to work with children, teens, adults and couples. I believe that through acceptance, introspection, exploration and application of these in one’s life change can begin and be long-lasting. I'd be happy to meet with you!

I have over 15 years experience working with relationships, stress, anxiety, low mood, and eating disorders of all kinds. The underlying patterns can take many forms, therefore the treatment approach may vary however evidence based CBT is the most effective treatment in these areas, especially when it is paired in combination with psychodynamic, relational and hypnosis approaches also as needed. Healing is probable, and happens as a result of conscious daily actions and unconscious dynamics that shift as a result of this process. I work with individuals who are ready and willing to change there thinking to heal for life

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
