I will work to create a safe and trusting experience where you can explore emotions that may arise in your parenting, gain insight into what triggers may get activated in you and new strategies to help increase your confidence in supporting your children through difficult behaviours, emotions and adversity.
Parenting requires so much from us and it can bring up many emotions when our children struggle. I specialize in parent counselling & coaching. I support and empower parents to feel more confident, attuned and skilled in their parenting journey. Parent counselling can help with issues such as anxiety, temper tantrums, aggression, defiance, sibling issues, adoption, conflict, power struggles and many more issues. We will work together to understand your child's emotional world, how to support your child in successfully regulating their emotions, enhance your connection with your child and implement evidence based strategies.

It's possible to get to the space where you can: express your needs to your partner or parent and be heard; feel deeply that your trauma was not your fault; trust your intuition; and show self compassion even though the systems you live in work actively against it.
Are you a little different? Queer or Trans? ADHDer? Autistic spouse? Survivor of Religious Trauma? Maybe you have a specific set of unique personalities in your family. Maybe you have a bunch of labels but what you really want to talk about is being lonely. Maybe you've never found someone who really acknowledged that thinking your way through your problems doesn't work. Your problems don't fit in a neat little category, and you don't have a nice little summary of who you are, where you came from, and what is ailing you. Guess what? That's exactly how therapy starts: with the best pieces of you all tangled up with fear and shame.

Feeling exhausted, burned out, and frustrated with life's ups and downs? Not knowing who you can talk to about these challenges? Whether it is from parenting, work, school, life, or a combination of them all, I know how hard it can be when things just feel like they keep piling up with no end in sight. Juggling multiple roles and feeling like you have no time for yourself is a battle many of us are facing. Both my personal and professional experiences give me the tools to help clients facing these struggles and I would love to connect and see how I can be a support to you, your family member, or family during these stressful times.

I'm an experienced parent consultant and couple therapist. I love to help parents understand their children's behaviours from the inside out and get them back in the driver's seat! To accomplish this, I have found Dr. Gordon Neufeld's attachment and developmental approach to be most effective. With my couples, I use a research backed model called EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy). EFT pays particular attention to those interactions where couples get stuck, those moments where the signals get scrambled. It provides a road map to identify the negative pattern, de-escalate emotional reactivity and re-establish the connection.

I firmly believe in the healing power of relationship and I strive to nurture my clients’ connection to loved ones and significant others. I believe that positive change starts with healthy individuals who then form healthy relationships and establish positive child- parent connections. These relationships give rise to healthy families and thriving communities. To me, empathy and compassion are at the heart of healthy connection and by creating a space for these qualities to flourish, we take the first steps toward healing.

Parenting Counsellors

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
