Complex Trauma, PTSD, ADHD, Borderline Personality Disorder &
Narcissistic
Abuse share a lot in common. Each can feel confusing, scary and hard to face alone. Each is associated with a set of often overlapping signals from your psyche alerting you that something deep inside needs expert care and attention for you to truly heal, feel authentic and whole, and find relief from inner suffering. Expertly listening with in-depth attunement, genuine compassion and skillful curiosity to what's going on beneath the surface inevitably reveals a path forward toward living a life enriched with a greater sense of meaning, fulfillment and ease.

I have a passion for supporting people who are, or have been, in relationship with people with
narcissistic
traits.
My work with people is rooted in the belief that we all have the strength and wisdom within ourselves to make the changes we wish to see. Within the context of a safe and meaningful therapeutic relationship, new ways of being can emerge. Living more fully aligned with our values and increasing our awareness of unhelpful patterns can allow us to live a more meaningful, vibrant, and joyful life. By working collaboratively with you at your own pace, I can support you in expanding your self-awareness and changing the maladaptive beliefs or behaviours that are getting in the way of living the full and rich life that you imagine.

Perceptions...This is what we live out. Our perceptions of life. How we see the world and what we expect. Sometimes life does not ask you what you want, and it can get frustrating , or downright painful trying to live with, date or communicate with someone in your life. Finding YOU is a large part of the answer. Who are you? What messages are you sending and receiving? What do you want from your life? What would it take to get that? To be able to feel good about yourself and your life again. Sometimes an outside perspective can help you to see more clearly. Reaching out for someone with an objective view can help with that.

I am passionate about helping and supporting adolescents and adults through life's many obstacles, such as depression, anxiety, ADHD, life transitions, relationship issues, self-esteem, and job/academic performance issues. I work with Clients to identify their strengths and resources so they can use them to manage problems and find solutions so that each client can discover and reach their preferred outcome. I work with clients collaboratively, which means we both bring unique skills to the counselling session and work together towards the client's preferred outcome.

In my practice I see a wide range of clients: adults, teens, children, adults who have experienced developmental traumas [sexual, physical & emotional abuse] (often in the context of their own dysfunctional family of origin), clients with PTSD, couples who are seeking to strengthen their relationship, families looking for new ways to resolve old problems, and individuals who keep repeating the past. Depending on the presenting problem and a client's history, I often integrate EMDR Therapy and Gestalt Therapy and/or Structural Family Therapy. Online counselling is now available to residents of Alberta.

It isn’t necessary to stay stuck (or alone) in painful situations or challenging circumstances. Therapy/counselling provides an opportunity to uncover and discover new understandings, strengths and resiliencies in self (and others). Therapy provides a safe space to develop action plans to explore difficult life, or work transitions including separation, divorce, and job and career changes. Therapy also provides a safe space to explore and develop skills in managing mental health challenges such as anxiety, depression, OCD, ODD, etc. No problem is too big for therapy.

You want a LIFE more worth LIVING! Lets create that together! At all times, we are always doing the best we can with what we have: the knowledge, skills, experience and the information we posses in the moment. But, we often judge our "past" selves (and others in our past) from where we are at "today". This can create problems. With guidance, we can learn how our own (and others) past decisions, actions and experiences can create problems for us today. With understanding, we can learn to live more effectively! I invite you to join me for this journey!!

I treat each person as an individual. I look at complex trauma that they may have experienced, and move with compassion and empathy towards healing. Then they are free to live a meaningful life with hope and happiness. I have worked with clients since 1984 with success. I have been trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Ericksonian Hypnosis. I use a brief therapy model. I am a Wall Street Journal Bestselling author, Happy Is The New Healthy. My book Habit of a Happy Life has been translated into Mandarin and Spanish. I have diplomate status with the American Board of Forensic Examiners and offer expert testimony in court.

Thinking of how things have been, you feel overwhelmed, upset, and at times detached from your current reality. You struggle to feel good enough and connect to joy in your life. You long to feel fulfilled and connected within your life. You are looking for a therapist who really gets you and has the tools to help.

Narcissistic Personality (NPD) Counsellors
What type of therapy is best for narcissistic personality disorder?
Narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) is best treated with talk therapy, which could involve cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, schema therapy, gestalt therapy, or similar approaches. A therapist will help a patient uncover the feelings that may drive their behavior and discover how to engage with themselves and those around them with greater empathy and understanding, fewer demands, and less defensiveness, with the goal of developing a more authentic sense of self that enables healthier relationships.
How do therapists treat NPD?
By developing a strong therapeutic relationship, and continually focusing patients on relationships, community, and connection, a therapist, through talk therapy, may be able to help someone with NPD change. In sessions, a therapist will help an individual achieve relief from their current stressors, including the treatment of co-occurring conditions such as anxiety or depression. A therapist may also help an individual to recognize unhealthy coping mechanisms, learn new ways of interacting with others, and eventually become able to feel and display empathy.
Can a narcissist be cured with therapy?
Therapy can be effective. After a serious setback or great loss, someone with NPD may be forced to recognize that they are not immune to life’s challenges. That can spur feelings of melancholy and depression that lead them to seek professional help. Once an individual decides to seek help, they have already taken a step that the majority of those with NPD never will. Still, people with NPD often quit therapy as they naturally resist feeling vulnerable, being challenged, or admitting to flaws.
How can you get narcissistic personality disorder treatment for someone?
It is notoriously difficult to convince someone with NPD to seek help. With their feelings of superiority, they may be unlikely to recognize or acknowledge that they have a problem, or that their problem is narcissism. Sometimes, they are aware that they are arrogant and that others resent them but they don’t see it as a problem because they are convinced of their superiority. People with NPD have trouble maintaining relationships, but family members and others who do feel close to them, and whose presence they value, may be able to encourage them to seek therapy.
