Modalities: family systems , cognitive, emotionally focused, somatic processing, mindfulness, eye movement desensitization, Neurolinguistic Programming, learning in trance, couples.
Using mind-body-spirit therapies, we focus on resilience, what and you love, how you have dealt with past issues, what you have already created or accomplished in life. What is your "intention" personally, in relationships, for work/creativity? Anxiety, depression, trauma, living well with chronic pain, health, relationships, work place, loss of meaning or direction in life, and creative performance. I am best suited to clients who are interested in incorporating body-mind modalities as well as "talk". Teleconferencing (Zoom, FaceTime) works very well . In person is available.

I work predominantly with folks who are racialized, 2SLGBTIQ, neurodivergent, and/or disabled. Often, those I work with have been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder; experience identity-based trauma; struggle with relationships, emotional regulation, or impulsivity; want greater self-awareness or understanding; want to feel a sense of belonging, connection, and safety; or generally, want more joy in their lives.

I am here to offer couples and Individuals my guidance into what we are beyond the psychological structures and past traumas. My educational background, and 22 years of professional experience, draws from various therapeutic traditions and methods such as the cognitive,(CBT), systemic, ( IFS ), psychodynamic and existential, but it is the deeper and transpersonal perspective and approach that has my heart; It is about growing a loving awareness of yourself, your inner self, and what is beyond the self; to tap into a greater sense of our connectedness with everything, to be at home inside, and to build our life in that.

My practices evolved over time but always followed through the line of trauma. I work with kids as young as four up until whatever age they want to continue therapy. I am fortunate enough to have a very formative experience in EMDR, IFS , IFIO, and Clinical Hypnosis to address the needs of my clients. As a psychologist, I believe that to have good mental health, the individual must be treated as the whole person. So, I integrate the mind and body into my practice to help my clients to overcome depression, anxiety, grief, stress, mood disorders, and PTSD. I also proudly offer NeurOptimal Neurofeedback for brain training.

I primarily draw on my training and experience in Internal Family Systems Therapy (parts work) and Hakomi Therapy (mindfulness-based and body-centered).
Do you feel like your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are often misaligned with who you want to be, who you really are deep inside? Are you ready to begin transforming the beliefs, emotions, and patterns you hold inside of yourself that keep you from fully living the life that you want? Together we can explore the roots of whatever you are currently wanting help with - be it emotional regulation, self-compassion, relationships, depression, anxiety, addictions, life transitions, sexuality, spirituality, and racial identity. These roots can span across multiple generations, often inviting us to tune in to our ancestral history.

Using a dynamic approach, I will focus on thought with CBT, emotions with EFT, and somatic issues, cumulating and combining into IFS work, to dislodge burdens of pain.
I work from a strength base perspective, specializing in individuals who have had early childhood trauma, with those who have C-PTSD, episodes of dissociation through to multiple personalities, personality disorders, ADHD or Autism, as well as with Couple and Family relationship issues. I seek to identify breakages in thought that produce skewed emotions undermining unity of being. Trauma dislodges us from ourselves. The disturbance / horror clients witnessed, needs to be answered and mended through revealing, liberating, and engaging their immense inner strength with competent care - which brings about release, freedom and healing.

Life can be complex and challenging to manage alone. Even with great friends and family, sometimes, it isn't enough. You may not want to burden them with what is causing your stress or something you are trying to navigate or better understand but still want to give yourself a chance to thrive and persevere. You want to be as healthy as you can be from the inside out and you commit to giving yourself that chance.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Counsellors

What is Internal Family Systems therapy?

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a type of talk therapy that focuses on sub-personalities, or “families,” within a person, which may be made up of wounded parts and unpleasant emotions like anger and shame. These sub-personalities can come into conflict with each other and with an individual’s core Self, leaving the person feeling detached from positive traits such as the “8 C’s” of confidence, calmness, creativity, clarity, curiosity, courage, compassion, and connectedness. By healing a patient’s wounded parts, a therapist aims to restore balance and bring on positive change.

How does Internal Family Systems therapy work?

An IFS therapist will work with a patient to identify their particular sub-personalities, recognize the emotions powering them, and release them. By doing so, the patient should become more able to address any underlying problems their sub-personalities may have been trying to protect them from. Ultimately, a patient discovers ways to manage internal and external conflicts on their own, through techniques such as relaxation exercises, journaling, and making charts depicting the relationships between their core Self and their distinct parts.

Does Internal Family Systems therapy work?

IFS therapy has been shown to help people address conditions such as depression, anxiety, panic, fears and phobias, trauma, and substance use disorders. Some research has also found that it can help individuals deal with symptoms of physical health conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, such as pain, everyday functioning, depressive feelings, and low self-compassion. There are some conditions for which IFS treatment, specifically discussions of one’s “parts,” may be less appropriate, such as schizophrenia or other states that involve psychosis or paranoia.

How long does Internal Family Systems therapy take?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for IFS therapy. After becoming comfortable with a therapist and the core concepts of IFS, some patients quickly make progress. While experiences vary, most will find that it is a relatively longer-term therapy, involving months and sometimes years of sessions.
