Life is challenging and difficult at times. It can create distress that affects every part of who we are: our thoughts, feelings, physical well-being and spirit - upsetting the ability to be effective with ourselves, others and manage the demands of our daily life. When we decide to reach out for help, we are acting courageously. Particularly if we do not have the energy or believe that things can be better. I am passionate about helping people. I work to understand the world from your point of view and help you gain a sense of balance and confidence to make positive changes in your life.

I believe that every individual has set of strengths, skills, beliefs, and values that are unique to them, but sometimes when we are dealing with certain things in our life, it’s hard for us to remember the tools we may have to at our disposal to help us through the challenging time. My hope is that we can work collaboratively to highlight these strengths and skills and furthermore come up with new strategies and skills to help you grow and move forward in life.

I want you to know that you can feel better. The effects of patterns like depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, and people-pleasing don’t need to rob you of a life lived well. Soul-sucking patterns like these gobble up your time, money, physical energy, thoughts, and the ability to focus on yourself. Life feels hard in this place. The good news is that pain is motivating! You've likely tried a bunch of things to feel better, but now your inner wisdom is whispering to you to find outside help for the inside pain, and here you are. If this resonates with you, I'd love to work together!

I recognize that therapy is not always exciting or enjoyable. In fact, it is often uncomfortable, exhausting and scary. You will not always like it. I also think that it is only through facing the impact of the difficult ‘life stuff’ that you can build a fulfilling and sustainable way of being. I trust that all humans hold intrinsic knowledge of what they need and unforeseen events often disconnect us from that knowledge. I view my role as restoring that connection in an honest and collaborative way. I am drawn to finding crucial links uncovering why we do what we do and creating intentional alternatives together with the client.

People tend to walk through life without slowing down enough to reflect on their lives and the decisions that they have made. Often people put one foot in front of the other and later realize that they are truly unhappy with how life has been going.Through therapy we will spend time finding out the root cause of what challenges are preventing true happiness. This process will help you understand how your challenges originated and help you learn to construct a new foundation.

How can I find a therapist in Edmonton?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

How much does therapy cost?

Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $300 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
