of couples therapy, which is an evidence-based and well-rounded approach for strengthening relationships (and fixing areas of challenge).
Hi, I'm glad you're here. I'm Whitney, and I'm a Registered Psychologist. I work with both adults and couples on a range of concerns. No matter who I am working with, I am guided by the following values: honesty, curiosity, and fun. In therapy, this means that I'm straightforward, I seek feedback from clients to ensure therapy is meeting their needs and adapt the process when needed. I also take the opportunity to use creativity and humour to enhance therapy.

She helps couples bond with each other through Emotion-Focused Therapy and
Gottman Method
(Certification in Level 1 and 2).
Starting a journey of healing and growth can be daunting but you don’t have to do this alone. It takes strength to reach out for help and courage to be vulnerable to share your story and pain with someone else. This is why Meagan strives to establish a trusting relationship by providing a safe environment for you to feel less isolated and for you to freely express your true self without the fear of judgment. She sees therapy as a partnership between you and her, where she is never above you but instead walks beside you as you search for greater clarity and meaning.

I have over a decade of experience working with individuals, couples and families struggling with trauma, relationship challenges, substance abuse, and domestic violence.

I am also trained in the
Gottman Method
for couples counselling, and have experience supporting couples struggling with conflict and communication concerns.
Life can be difficult. Trying to address these difficulties ourselves may feel overwhelming. I support the individuals I meet by working collaboratively with them in a non-judgmental, supportive environment where goals can be established, and movement towards positive change can occur regardless of where one might be in the change process. I believe in highlighting strengths, and empowering clients to achieve therapy goals. I respect how each person's needs within therapy are unique, so a primary focus of mine is the development of a meaningful therapeutic relationship so I can clearly understand and support those unique needs.

Gottman Method Counsellors
How does the Gottman method work?
One of the core doctrines of the Gottman method is that negative emotions hurt relationships about five times more than positive emotions help them. Thus, couples require five times more positive interactions than negative interactions with each other. The therapist will guide clients on how to improve communication and understanding of each other to manage conflict and have their emotional needs met. The therapist will also advise couples on how to repair relations with each other when conflict arises, and therefore avoid lasting damage.
Is the Gottman method evidence-based?
Yes, this method is an evidence-based approach to couples therapy. The method is based on more than 40 years of research by Drs. John and Julie Gottman, the psychologists who developed the method. The Gottmans analysed decades of data to draw conclusions about what types of interactions are likely to lead to specific results, and which interventions are most likely to lead to success. Studies have found that this approach leads to improvements in relationship satisfaction, intimacy, communication skills, and a lower rate of divorce.
How long does the Gottman method take?
The duration of treatment depends on the specific challenges clients face. Sessions are typically 60 to 90 minutes long, and an average course of treatment is around 10 sessions. In some cases, such as for couples dealing with a critical problem, the therapist will suggest an intensive course of treatment, with daily sessions over the first two to four days. Treatment is complete when the couple is satisfied and has met the goals they’ve set, and when the therapist believes they have the skills to continue on their own.
Is the Gottman method effective?
Through the Gottman method, couples can achieve changes that are real and sustainable. This treatment has been used for more than 40 years; the method is supported by empirical research, including randomised controlled trials that have demonstrated effectiveness in improving relationship outcomes for couples. Like any talk therapy, success or failure depends in large part on how committed the clients are to making positive changes and working toward results.
