As a psychologist I integrate a variety of therapeutic modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral therapy, Solution-focused therapy, Systemic Family therapy , Play therapy, and Person-Centered therapy.
I am a Registered Psychologist who is passionate about helping children, adolescents and young adults with emotional, academic and behavioral difficulties. I have been an educator and school counselor for the past 30 years and I am cognizant of the struggles that some children or youth experience in the regular school system. My experiences as a classroom teacher and school counselor have prompted a desire to work with students with learning, emotional and behavioral challenges in conjunction with their families.

In addition to mental health I am able to provide basic physical OT and pediatric OT to support you and your family .
What would you be doing if your mental health improved? Or what do you wish you were doing to improve your mental health? Would you be more involved at school or work? More physically active? Starting new hobbies? Showering more? Whatever it is that you would be doing, I want to help you get there. Mental health is complex and includes our physical health, social health, and our ability to do things that matter to us. To honor this, I use a comprehensive approach that focuses on helping you live the life you want regardless of it your barriers are primarily physical, mental, or social in nature.

I'm a good fit for people who are seeking affirmation and encouragement. Therapy can be a space to work on building the life you want, taking new steps: coming out, being authentic, shedding harmful ideas, changing relationships with family members, improving your relationships, building your community. Many of my clients have connections to LGBTQ and two-spirit communities and issues. You have the wisdom of your own experience. As a therapist I am a safe partner in gaining confidence, stating your needs and working towards your goals. I work with individuals and couples, adults and teens (and their parents).

I also offer individual, couples, and family counselling.
As a therapist, one of my passions is working with individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, low self-esteem, anger, relationship issues, and suicidal ideation. Many people feel that they are alone in their struggles. I believe my role as your therapist is to remind you that you are not alone, normalize how you feel, and provide helpful tools along the way. My approach is solution focused, goal-oriented, strength-based, and trauma-informed. However, my main focus is building a strong therapeutic relationship that will help you feel safe, heard, and understood.

I am also so fortunate to have a family that fills my heart and allows me to understand the many challenges that parents encounter these days, including limiting screen time and recognizing social media hazards.
As a registered psychologist and having been in private practice for 14 years, I have had the privilege to meet and work with many wonderful couples, families and individuals. I strive to establish a solid rapport with clients in a comfortable environment. I have been told that clients appreciate my professional and direct approach that is not overly formal and allows for humour when appropriate. I use a biopsychosocial approach and incorporate several therapeutic modalities. I work to not only focus on managing symptoms, but getting down to the root cause of what is getting in the way of being able to achieve one’s goals.

I am a Registered Clinical Social Worker with a Master of Social Work degree, specialization in Clinical Social Work. My primary area of focus is divorce and separation, working with the entire family , children (over 12) and individuals going through this big family change. I work with families in the Collaborative Family Law Process, voluntary process, or with those under court-ordered interventions. I believe in early intervention with families going through this difficult time prior to conflict escalating, however if conflict is set in then a direct, solution-focused approach is key.

I offer professional counselling service that recognizes and appreciates each individual’s unique personality and circumstances. My goal is to help every client thrive emotionally, psychologically, and intellectually. I am equally as interested to hear a client’s story of trauma, loss, regret, loneliness, and difficult family dynamics, as I am to listen about times filled with purpose and happiness. I pay close attention to what is said, in addition to what is left unsaid, to uncover patterns of core beliefs.

Family Therapy Counsellors

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
