I am a Registered Clinical Social Worker with a Master of Social Work degree, specialization in Clinical Social Work. My primary area of focus is
divorce
and separation, working with the entire family, children (over 12) and individuals going through this big family change. I work with families in the Collaborative Family Law Process, voluntary process, or with those under court-ordered interventions. I believe in early intervention with families going through this difficult time prior to conflict escalating, however if conflict is set in then a direct, solution-focused approach is key.

When I meet with a client, whether a child, teenager, or adult, my intention is to be present with them where they are, first as a human being; then to help them feel safe and comfortable with me and to bring my years of experience and training, along with their knowledge of themselves and their desire to change, to resolve what brought them to therapy.

In addition to extensive training, my work is shaped by my own life experience, including separation/
divorce
, blended family life, grief/loss, parenting and major life transitions.
“We’re all too vulnerable to face the hugeness of life alone. It doesn’t make sense to do that… we need each other” (Sue Johnson). I believe that meaningful connection with ourselves and others is central to our wellbeing. Unfortunately, painful past experiences and unhelpful patterns can sometimes get in the way. Relationship struggles can erode our self-worth and leave us feeling anxious, depressed, exploited, and alone. They can also create ripples that disrupt other important parts of our lives – our health, work, and kids. You're here because you’re wanting change. I'm here to provide a safe space for your journey to change.

One of my passions involves working with couples in the area of sexuality, intimacy, infidelity, and the often traumatic world of
divorce
and relationship endings.
I believe we are all coping as best we can, and there are times in our lives when we can use extra support and guidance in seeking clarity and direction. My goal and wish for my clients is that out of pain and despair, comes peace, freedom, and ultimately joy. I feel truly honored to hear people's stories and my desire and motivation to work collaboratively and respectfully with people at their own pace is genuine. With my help as your therapist I will provide a safe healing environment and help you develop a healthier and more rewarding approach to life.

Individually, I work with clients that present anxiety, depression, infidelity,
divorce
/separation, workplace stress, and dysfunctional family dynamics. I would help provide clarity for clients so they can take appropriate action to solve/heal the problem.
For couples, I focus on the relationship that I witness in the room. My goals is to re-establish intimacy for my clients by taking them through a journey of risk taking and vulnerability; thereby, creating a strong dependent relationship as well as strong independent individuals.

Everyday life presents us with many challenges, and not all challenges are easy to overcome. In order to preserve our mental and physical health, it is important to identify when the challenges we are facing are beyond the normal threshold of storm and stress. We need to make a decision to reach out...Find a professional who will provide us with an environment where we will feel safe, comfortable, respected, listened to, and understood. Where we are able to gain insight into our situation, find a deeper understanding, evoke meaningful changes, improve our relationships, and heal ourselves by using a potential that we already have.

How does therapy for people affected by a divorce work?
Individuals may feel a number of emotions following a divorce, such as shock, guilt, grief, anger, and fear. Therapists offer a non-judgmental space for individuals to talk about what they’ve experienced and process their emotions. Therapists will help clients develop coping strategies. They can also help a client rebuild their sense of self and self-worth and talk about what a happier future might look like.
What’s the most common type of therapy following a divorce?
There are several types of therapy that may be useful for divorce, including cognitive behavioural, acceptance and commitment, solution-focused brief, and mindfulness-based therapies. Many therapy types are talk-therapy based, which is typically the most popular option for individuals dealing with divorce. Cognitive behavioural therapy is a widely-used talk therapy, however, there’s no specific therapy type that’s designed to help people with divorce, and different types will work depending on the person.
When should an individual seek help due to a divorce?
When the feelings of a divorced individual, or an individual going through the process of divorce, begin to disrupt healthy daily functioning, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not performing at work due to problems with anxiety or motivation, if they’re no longer seeing friends due to feelings of shame, or if they’re not properly taking care of themselves as a result of depression, speaking to a professional could help.
How do you encourage someone to go to therapy due to a divorce?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the individual while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Sharing how the individual appears to be suffering, and what effects it has on them or on their children, should be done with compassion and empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
