Family Counselling Centres' therapeutic team offers several specialized treatments including but not limited to: EMDR; Play Therapy; Animal-Assisted Therapy; Equine Assisted Counselling;
Couples Counselling
; Family Therapy; Addictions Counselling; Group Therapy; Art Therapy; Speech Pathology; Occupational Therapy; Psychological, Psycho-Educational, Forensic, and Parenting Assessments.
At Family Counselling Centres we recognize that therapy cannot be a one size fits all approach. Every individual is unique in how they respond to therapy. Accordingly, we utilize play therapy, animal assisted (horse and dog) therapy, EMDR, art therapy, filial therapy, sand play therapy, and traditional psychotherapy to provide clients with comprehensive care. We treat children, teens, adults, and families using both traditional and non-traditional therapies. We believe that people can live up to their full potential if a nurturing environment is available-- this is why we put such a strong focus on the family.

relationship
with a counsellor.
I work with clients ages 14 and up, online and in-person. I welcome your whole self in our sessions, including intersectional identities, contradictions, uncertainty, and tender feelings. I also welcome people who are hesitant about seeing a counsellor, or who’ve had difficult experiences accessing mental health support in the past. My aim is for our sessions to be an empowering experience for you. My practice is influenced by creativity and the arts, and I seek to accompany people in healing according to their own values, and through experiences of dignity and possibility.

Trans? Autistic? Fat? Queer? Come on in and join the party. If you've found us, it's probably because you (or your
relationship
or your family) are a little different. Maybe you have a specific set of unique personalities in your family. Maybe you want a practice that is overtly queer-friendly. Maybe you've got a new diagnosis of ADHD or autism on your hands. Maybe you have a bunch of labels but what you really want to talk about is being lonely. Your problems don't fit in a neat little category, and you don't have a nice little summary of who you are, where you came from, and what is ailing you.

Couples Counselling
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
