You're always someone worth caring for - can't stress that one enough. Therapy is an invitation to explore your relationships with others, with yourself; to find safety and meaning, in whatever that looks like. For some folks, that means negotiating the things that used to work but no longer do, for others that might be truly feeling like they can feel safe with themselves.

I specialize in supporting adults who have experienced childhood trauma and relational trauma. Many of my clients don’t use the term “relational trauma,” but instead share stories of having an abusive or emotionally unavailable parent, surviving sexual trauma, or being in abusive marriages or relationships. They often speak about feeling constantly criticized or controlled, growing up with emotionally neglectful caregivers, or being raised in homes impacted by addiction or mental illness. Some were parentified, taking on adult responsibilities at a young age, or felt they had to earn love and approval.

Our complex life experiences often shape how we feel about ourselves and the world around us. I find people heal and experience the changes they hope for in the right environment, with the tools that work best for them and through connection to their authentic self. It is important that I create an open, compassionate, warm, non-judgemental and safe environment where clients feel supported and empowered to work on their goals. I recognize that accessing support is not easy, and I feel privileged and grateful to accompany clients on their healing journey.

I do not believe in pathologizing individuals based on their diagnoses, symptoms, or challenges. Instead, I approach therapy as a collaborative and compassionate process, recognizing that healing happens within the context of trust and connection. To support this, I offer a no-commitment consultation to explore whether I am the right fit to support you on your journey. The most effective therapy is built on a secure and trusting relationship, and I deeply value the opportunity to walk alongside those who invite me into their healing process.

I am a Registered Psychologist with a focus on nature and equine-assisted therapy approaches. Rather than conducting my therapy sessions in an office setting, I typically work with clients outside surrounded by horses. I rely on an Integrative Approach to therapy, leaning heavily on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, and Client Centered Therapy approaches.
I work with children, youth, and adults as they navigate health challenges, grief and loss, anxiety, depression, and life transitions. Nature and equine-assisted therapy is a validated therapeutic approach that can assist with these challenges.

How does cognitive processing therapy work?
A CPT therapist helps a client evaluate their thoughts about the trauma they experienced, focusing on maladaptive or self-blaming thoughts that can exacerbate symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, or depression. The therapist will work with a client to help them learn to challenge such thoughts and consider different perspectives. The therapist is also likely to ask a client to work on these techniques at home between meetings, such as writing an account of their trauma that can be read aloud during a future session.
What is cognitive processing therapy for PTSD?
Cognitive processing therapy (CPT) is a form of cognitive-behavioural therapy primarily used in the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) to treat individuals who experienced abuse or violence, who survived natural disasters, who were first responders to such incidents, or who otherwise experienced trauma.
How long does cognitive processing therapy last?
CPT is a short-term therapy. Whether conducted one-on-one or in a group, a complete set of CPT sessions typically includes 12 weekly sessions, along with tasks for clients to complete at home, although this can vary depending on a client’s needs or a therapist’s particular treatment plan. Sessions typically last 60 or 90 minutes.
How effective is cognitive processing therapy?
A large body of research supports the use of CPT to treat people experiencing PTSD, finding it to be effective among different age groups, either in one-on-one therapy sessions or in a group therapy environment. Research suggests that although the initial sessions may be difficult, clients tend to begin to feel positive progress after the first few sessions, and that the benefits tend to last well after the therapy ends.
