Humor, genuine compassion and empathy are necessary for healing - especially the humor part! Which is why they are benchmarks of my clinical practice. Combined together, the healing force created is a 'game changer' in people's lives. My approach to psychotherapy is person centered (congrats, you are unique! Your therapy should be too), grounded in attachment theory (relationships are our friend! Don't argue...everyone needs a friend) and developmental psychology (we all go through life changes, change suucks, but it's unavoidable). All this guides our path to wellness. Heads up - standard credential speech ahead...

DREAMS are a creative way to work with the unconscious; to be creative means to bring something into being, and the unconscious is a source for that new being. We are not just what we know of ourselves. Our suffering has meaning and if we are struggling or in crisis this can be the catalyst for change. Carl Jung (1875-1961), tells us that "certain types of pain...are symbolically meaningful. This is one way the unconscious expresses itself." Our psyche is a part of nature and dreams come from that nature to speak to us in a metaphoric language.

Struggling in silence? There is hope. Lets work through it together! Do you wake up feeling drained, wishing you could stay in bed, questioning the purpose of it all? Do you feel trapped, lonely, overwhelmed, stressed, or disconnected from others? Do thoughts like "I'm not good enough," "I'm a failure," or "I don't matter" run through your mind? Are these thoughts and feelings affecting your personal relationships?

I practice from a trauma-informed perspective and have a special focus/interest in anxiety, depression, burnout, men’s health, and relationship/couples’ issues; these are of special interest because I have lived experience with all these themes and topics. I have experience as a client with individuals, couples, and group counselling; these shape my practice and help me connect with my clients through an appreciation of how intimidating and scary therapy can be. I also have experience supporting children and youth and recognize that counselling young people and families requires different strategies than working with adults.

Society used to look at mental health issues as something to be ashamed of, but we don't have to any more. Mental health, like physical health, is something that absolutely everyone must work at to feel good. It's rewarding work, but it isn't always easy. Traumatic events or even just daily struggles can sometimes lead to addictions, poor relationships with others, or strong feelings of disconnection and worthlessness. The resources we need to stay balanced, to grow, and to feel whole are within each of us, but sometimes we have trouble finding them on our own.

Choosing a therapist can feel like a daunting task; I do not believe that therapy is one size fits all and hope that the following information will help you decide whether we might be a good fit! My clients describe me as non-judgmental, genuine, warm, funny, enthusiastic and honest. I believe that we only have one shot at this thing called life and that we all deserve to live that life to the fullest (and I would love to hear about what that might mean to you)! In the words of Mary Oliver, "What will you do with your one wild and precious life?"

Sessions are interactive, transparent, and optimistic. An eclectic approach rooted in Individual Psychology and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy offers the versatility for a culturally sensitive, non-judgmental, and an efficient working relationship.

Trauma can leave an imprint on our lives, but it does not have to be permanent. It may alter your foundation and leave you lost, angry, confused and in unbearable pain. I believe that choosing to rebuild this foundation through therapy is a courageous step in healing. It is not always an easy journey as we need to survey the land, start digging, install the foundation and work with any arising obstacles. This can be an exhausting and scary process but we will work collaboratively at your pace and create a resolution that fits for you.

As a Registered Psychologist, I am committed to helping others live a life they deeply value, in spite of what suffering inevitably arises. I offer a respectful, confidential space where you will be supported in honest, non-judgmental self-exploration. Together, we can work on approaching your difficult thoughts, feelings, and experiences in new ways: with compassion, understanding, and the courage to be vulnerable. My goal is to help you build behavioural flexibility, so that you are increasingly able to act in ways that align with your values, rather than rigidly re-cycling old patterns of behaviour.
