As humans, we will experience feelings of burnout, anxiety, or depression at some point in our lives, and talking to a psychologist can help. I have seen firsthand the transformative power of therapy and the incredible progress individuals can make as they learn to navigate their emotions, build resilience, and create meaningful connections with others. Since there is no “one size fits all” approach, I will work in collaboration with you to come up with a unique game plan that fits your needs and most of all, works! I am here to help support and push you towards achieving your personal, professional, and lifelong goals.

Unhappy? Anxious? Hopeless? Losing control? Dysfunctional upbringing? I help individuals and couples with a history of anxiety, anger, panic, relationship issues, shame, trauma, rigid thoughts/behaviours (like cleaning or repetitive fears), PTSD, work stress, ineffective communication, worry, shyness, uncontrollable thoughts, binge eating, phobias, depression, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), physical symptoms, parenting struggles, feelings of disconnect, numbness and more. It feels hopeless; maybe it’s been this way for as long as you can remember. Change feels impossible, but it isn't.

Why aren't we as happy as we want to be? Sometimes life is full of stress and challenges, and we might lose our connection with the joyful part of ourselves. My goal is to help clients reconnect with their joy and live meaningful and satisfying lives. A strong client-therapist bond is essential to making therapy effective, therefore I focus on building and maintaining a positive therapeutic relationship that is non-judgmental, respectful, and compassionate. When working with clients I strive to create an atmosphere that promotes safety, self-compassion, insight, and helps to identify steps to take in order to move forward.

My passion for working with children and adolescents comes from my background in Elementary Education. As long as I can remember I have always enjoyed working with this population and it has been a privilege to be able to apply my previous knowledge to support development and growth in the therapeutic space. A strong collaboration between myself, my client, supportive family members and other professionals is important to me. I call my office the “no judgment zone” where we are able to feel comfortable exploring various challenges and working towards finding viable solutions.

Tired of racing thoughts and intrusive worries? Thinking it’s time for a change but not sure where to start? So many things cause us to feel overwhelmed. For some, the reasons are obvious. Things like trauma, work or school stress, parenting, family issues, fears or phobias, lack-of-focus, overflowing to-do lists, or burn-out can cause a lot of stress. For others, anxiety can feel like a total mystery. We can look fine on the outside, though the inside is often a different story. Regardless of the reason, stress and overwhelm take away from our general happiness and make dealing with life so much harder.

In this journey of life, we experience all kinds of events both positive and negative. As humans, we are equipped with unique strengths and resources that shape our resiliency when it comes to healing, changing, growing, and adapting. We may experience problems because of a disruption (internal or external) to our daily functioning, which can impact how we feel, how we think, and/or how we behave. This can result to feeling a loss of control and autonomy over our lives. A central tenant to my approach in counselling is social justice which means supporting my clients to empower themselves: regaining power over their lives.

We are each the author of our own life story, and at times it can feel like we don’t know how to write the next chapter. Perhaps you are experiencing patterns of unhelpful thoughts or behaviours, overwhelming emotions, or just can’t figure out what the obstacle is. Whatever the case may be, please know that you are not alone. I’m here to support you as you write your next chapter. It would be my privilege to work behind the scenes, encouraging you as you navigate the next (or possibly the first) step in your healing journey. To be the Alfred to your Batman, so to speak!

You’re exhausted all the time, but struggle to sleep. You try to relax but it never works and you end up snapping at family/friends. No motivation which leads to procrastination. “What’s wrong with me?” you might ask yourself. "I don’t even feel like myself anymore". Dreading to go to work. Even hobbies or hanging out with friends doesn't bring much joy. Everything just seems so draining! You feel overwhelmed, not good enough, and irritable. Feeling lost and stuck because nothing you try seems to work. You want someone that "gets it" and can help you generate some practical solutions for your relationships, work, and life.

You’re feeling overwhelmed, stressed, anxious and depressed; weighed down by hurt, shame and insecurity, and feeling “not enough.” You’ve been thinking, if you just do more, things will get better, but they aren’t and it’s impacting your relationships, your work and yourself. You are not alone. I’ve worked with many others with these same concerns.

Are you looking for someone who understands the intricacies of experiencing harm at the hands of a religious institution/high control group? Someone who knows the impacts of sexual violence? Maybe you’re struggling to exist within a world that prioritizes harmful systems, profits, and power over people. Maybe you’re feeling lost or overwhelmed– as someone with lived experience of mental illness, I know how hard it can be to sort out what you’re needing. Regardless of what you’re struggling with, if you’re looking for someone who will non-judgmentally sit with and laugh with you, and accept you just as you are, I might be a good fit!

Do you long to connect with your authentic Self and heal parts of you that are feeling burdened, disconnected and alone? Would you like to safely explore your habitual ways of thinking and feeling, and soften the limiting beliefs that might prevent you from feeling fully alive? Have you endured traumatic experiences, developmental or inter-relational wounding, that is still stored in your body and is impacting your relationships, and your trust in life? If you are struggling with PTSD, anxiety or overwhelm, and feel a lot of stress in your body, somatic psychotherapy can invite healing and bring more ease and freedom.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counselling

How can I find a therapist in Edmonton?

Search for nearby therapists or counsellors by inputting your city, postal code, or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postal code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Most Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are certified by one of the main professional associations, mainly the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), and will have a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC) designation with their name. Social Workers listed in the directory must be registered members of the college specific to their province. To be listed in the directory, Psychologists must be registered with the psychological college specific to their province or territory.

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given the considerable variation in professional regulation and prerequisites across Canadian provinces, some providers may possess significant professional qualifications without necessarily holding professional memberships or being obliged to acquire them. As a result, they may be selectively included without the "Verified" seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Psychologists, counsellors, psychotherapists and social workers can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and supervised, practical experience that enable them to do so in Canada.

Psychologists have a master's and/or doctoral degree and have passed both written and oral exams. Psychologists are able to complete mental health assessments and provide diagnostic information to clients as well as provide counselling therapy or psychotherapy. Counsellors and psychotherapists are expected to have a master's or doctoral degree in counselling psychology, social work, or a related mental health discipline and certification by a professional association, such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Registered Social Workers possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work and where possible must be licensed or certified by the provincial government and/or regulatory college.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, the cost of a therapy session in Canada could be between $100 and $200. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. Some types of outpatient mental health services are covered by Medicare, provided these are performed by a licensed mental health professional in the provinces or territory you reside in and who accepts the assignment.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postal code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Professionals licensed by regulatory colleges and those certified by associations such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association are obligated to uphold client confidentiality unless there is a legal reason that requires them to disclose information. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there is the potential or known harm to the client or others, or a court order, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
