Hi! My name is Heather. I am a highly intuitive person. Often trauma, loss, or stress and illness gets in the way of accessing our deepest wisdom. Thankfully, by healing our root issues, we can begin to access our wisdom. Do you ruminate, are you feeling like something is not quite right, or are you an empath struggling to hold your boundaries? In my work with my clients, I use somatic practices and depth hypnosis. These approaches go “beyond talk therapy” to help you heal. I have been a counsellor/ Master’s Social Worker and Yoga Therapis for + 20 years. I love that I get to support my clients in the process of transformation.

I use a variety of techniques to support folks on their healing journey including somatic work, breath work and bio-dynamics.
Hello and Thank you for finding me. From my Transpersonal Counseling perspective, the ideal client embodies a holistic approach to personal growth and development, recognizing the interconnectedness of mind, body, and spirit. Issues are viewed as opportunities for awakening and understanding, rather than mere obstacles to overcome. My clients desire for clarity, purpose, and fulfillment reflects their innate longing for connection to something greater than themselves. Their needs for guidance, support, and accountability align with the Transpersonal Counseling approach, which emphasizes the importance of a therapeutic relationship.

SMART is the multivitamin of somatic sensory therapies.
In SMART therapy clients are directed to REGULATE through MOVEMENT and as a result START TALKING so problem solving and healing can happen. Therapy is provided in a specially designed room with specialized equipment, such as arial swings, spinning, weighted blankets, balance beams, fitness balls, person sized pea-pod, body socks, dolphin pillows, and safe cubby holes, and tents. Movement, rest and safety is used to support natural ways of regulating bodies and emotions, facilitate parent-child attachment-building and allow for embodied processing of hurtful and traumatic experiences. It is not at all like traditional play therapy.

My influences derive from Buddhism, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Existentialism and body based therapies like Somatic and Polyvagal therapy.
Have you experienced a traumatic event that has stuck with you, making it more difficult to perform daily tasks or hobbies you once enjoyed? Maybe 'trauma' doesn’t resonate but deep down you know that some things you have experienced have left an imprint. My clients are women with concerns around perfectionism, overthinking, inner critics, anxiety, and healing from betrayal trauma and abuse. Often they grew up labelled as 'too sensitive', 'too much' or 'not enough' and struggle with purpose, self worth and a lack of meaning in their lives. My clients are inquisitive, brave and resilient, even if they aren't aware of that yet.

Most of how we feel, respond and think is based on unconscious patterning beliefs. I am committed to providing a safe and compassionate space for you to feel welcomed where ever you are at. By shedding light on what is unconscious through the pathway of increased awareness major transformation, healing and new neural connections can occur. The secret to feeling more ease lies in examining the core issues that are causing the distress and look directly into those places that we are avoiding. This approach arises from my experience that lasting change occurs when metal, physical, emotional and spiritual systems are all involved.

It all begins with a first step. Maybe you're feeling burnt out or want to make a change. Perhaps you are exploring some of life's deeper questions. Or maybe you want to find your voice through creativity. Whatever it is, the way we approach your path can make all the difference. Often it is hard to describe the kind of change we are seeking, we just know that things can't continue as they are. That feeling of uncertainty that comes with new terrain is common, and part of my role as a therapist is to assist you in exploring and defining your needs as they evolve.

For me, the ideal client is someone who is committed to their own healing journey and understands that participating in therapy is a lifelong process. I deeply believe that everyone deserves to live a fulfilling and happy life, and that seeking therapy is a courageous step towards achieving that. As a therapist, I have found that the most rewarding experiences come from working with clients who are willing to put in the effort and dedication to their own growth and healing. I feel honored to walk alongside these clients on their journey, providing support, guidance, and compassion as they navigate the ups and downs of life.

CONFIDENTIAL, COMPASSIONATE, SKILLED...My clients are curious, brave and ready to evolve, even if they're not quite sure what that looks like yet. They are looking to access the underlying roots of present day triggers, to live authentically in a world that promotes quick fix solutions and unending busyness. Meaningful growth commands us to slow down, pay attention, inquire within, and be (not do). Individuals that connect with me are ready for something different, something deeper. They are ready to develop a more compassionate relationship to the parts of self that are calling for attention. They are ready to thrive.

Modern life is full of complex pressures—though it doesn’t come with a road map to help us make sense of where we are or where we want to go. Sometimes we get stuck and need some assistance finding direction. Every person has the capacity for growth; yet every person’s story, life experiences, and hurdles are different.

I believe that you should walk away from counselling feeling empowered; with a sense of agency to make choices that improve your quality of life within the social contexts and systems you operate in. My role is to provide a nonjudgmental, warm, and accepting environment while accompanying you in discovering the resources you hold within you to move past the difficulties you’re facing.

Feeling stuck or like something is missing in your life? You're not alone. Many of the people who reach out to me feel lost or like they're at a crossroads. Or they want to make big changes but don't know where to start. Often, they've been struggling for a long time. Stuck in the same painful cycles. Thinking about getting help, but putting it off for one reason or another. Whatever the case, they're united by something important: a desire to get back to themselves and to actually enjoying life, rather than just going through the motions. And that desire for wholeness is precisely where their healing work can begin.

I work with the understanding that symptoms can be treated using validated scientific interventions such as EMDR and Somatic Natural Processing based on Polyvagal Theory.
Accepting new clients, veterans and first responders welcome! I am a Provisional Registered Psychologist in Alberta, with over 25 years of counselling experience, supporting adolescents, adults and families struggling with complex behavioural and mental health concerns. It has been an honour supporting, and witnessing transformative changes in both individuals, and collective systems; within the context of public health care, corporate settings, and private practice. I believe that symptoms often result from the accumulation of unresolved trauma and complex adverse life experiences. Healing is possible!

Reaching out for help when you are in pain, or wanting to change and grow, is a natural and healthy thing to do. My background as an Occupational Therapist in Palliative Care set me on a healing path that includes the body's wisdom and the whole environment when taking the next steps. I provide somatic psychotherapy for individuals and couples, which adds a potent dimension to traditional talk therapy such as CBT. I create a safe place to allow greater exploration and the risk of change. FOT is the gentlest and most respectful approach to trauma that I know. It is ideal for improving inner and outer relationships.

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
