As a PhD-trained clinical and health psychologist, I specialize in evidence-based therapy for anxiety, depression, sleep, life transitions, trauma, grief, and health challenges.
Life’s challenges, both expected and unexpected, can sometimes leave us feeling stressed or overwhelmed. In therapy, I work with clients to identify what’s contributing to these difficulties and to build skills that support meaningful, practical change. A key part of this work often involves understanding how thoughts, emotions, and behaviours interact, recognizing unhelpful patterns, and developing effective coping strategies. We also work on taking constructive action, even when discomfort is present, so that you can respond to challenges with greater flexibility and confidence.

I believe that good sleep is fundamental to mental health, so if you're having any difficulty with sleep I will work with you to improve the quality of sleep you're experiencing.
My therapy approach focuses on determining the roots of the issues you're facing, and working on healing those pieces so that you can live life the way you want to. If you feel like you had to grow up young or that you missed out on childhood due to trauma, loss, caretaking for family members, or moving to a different country; I want to work with you. I strive to understand the context and perspectives that make up your personal culture and I work with those rather than trying to change them.

I am a PhD trained Clinical Psychologist with expertise in assessing and treating mood disorders (e.g., depression, bipolar disorder), anxiety disorders (e.g., social anxiety, generalized anxiety and worry, panic disorder), and sleep disorders (e.g., insomnia, parasomnias), amongst other issues.
After conducting an assessment of your concerns and your goals for therapy, I recommend several evidence-based treatment options. Then, together, we decide on the path forward. Generally, we examine how your thinking and behaviour are linked to your emotional experience and learn ways to cope with and express emotions in a healthy way.

I provide trauma-informed counselling for women in midlife in Calgary and across Alberta, integrating talk therapy, holistic perspectives, Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) and CBT for insomnia.
Midlife can feel quietly overwhelming. From the outside, you may appear capable and composed, yet inside, you feel stretched thin, uncertain, or disconnected from yourself. Perhaps your children are more independent, relationships have shifted, your body feels unfamiliar, or you’re questioning your purpose after years of caring for others. You may be juggling work stress, aging parents, health changes, or a sense of loneliness that’s hard to explain. This stage of life was meant to feel empowering, yet instead it can bring anxiety, grief, self-doubt, and the pressure to keep holding everything together.

How effective is treatment for insomnia?
The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?
There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?
There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?
Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
