I utilize solution focused, strength-based, sex-positive and trauma focused approaches.
Life is messy, complicated and we do not always have the answers to 'fix' problems or issues . However, we have the ability to overcome, survive, process and become a better individual, partner and family member. It is the process that enable us develop the skills, values and the strength to go on with life. Our stories past, present and future are all relevant to who we are and who we want to become! I am equipped to support you in attaining these tools/skills through active listening, maintaining a non-judgemental stance and having a respectful dialogue.

I have additional training in sex therapy and love to work with people exploring how to have a healthy relationship to sex and sexuality.
Finding the right fit with a therapist is one of the most important parts of counselling. I work with you to build safety and comfort in exploring areas of your life you want to change. I am dedicated to helping people find ways of being in the world that are authentic to them and enjoy working with the many different challenges people face and how to navigate through them. I love working with people exploring different paths and looking to challenge the status quos in their lives, including those walking non-conforming paths. I am also passionate about supporting people to work through historical trauma and its present day impact.

I work with concerns about sex, relationships, identity, anxiety, depression, and trauma.
What are the unique challenges you face that keep you from living your most vibrant and authentic life? My goal is to help you illuminate these barriers and approach them with a refreshed perspective where you can face them authentically with courage and move through the fear that can get us all stuck at times. I climb mountains because demanding experiences test me, light me up, and ground me simultaneously and I bring this perspective to therapy. I want to help guide you into finding a deep sense of calm amidst your own challenges and make space where you can appreciate just how tenacious you can be and create lasting change.

"Insanity: Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." - Albert Einstein - As a psychologist, I tend to work with people to focus them on what they can change and control to find successes with their problems. Whether working with couples, families, children, youth, or adults, I'd like to be the guy who listens in a way others may have failed to hear you before. My ideal client is anyone craving new skills, new ways of thinking and feeling, and is ready to learn how to think anew about the things they were once sure of.

I am a sex and intimacy expert with over 15 years of specialty in relationships and sexuality.
Your relationship is great but you struggle in the bedroom. You (or your partner) have no desire anymore. When you do try it, it’s awkward and unfulfilling. Maybe you experience pain, or feel disconnected. You don’t know how to talk about it, and when you try it turns into a fight or disappointment. You are good friends (and parents) but you feel more like roommates than lovers. You can't remember the last time sex was easy and fun. Or maybe it's the other way around, sex is great, but you can't stop fighting. Or maybe it's both. I'd love to help. I love working with couples who feel they are stuck. Let's get you unstuck.

Have you been experiencing seemingly uncontrollable compulsions and urges to engage in behaviors you know you may regret later? At its core, addiction is defined as continuing doing something despite seeing clearly negative consequences of your behaviors. You feel as if something prevents you from taking decisive actions that are based on your values. I have successfully helped people suffering from sex addictions, alcohol addiction and drug addiction. I believe that you deserve a better life where you regulate your emotions and urges and not the other way around.

But that doesn’t mean sex, loss, and anger are not part of the mix.
Hi, I’m Gio (they/them), and if you're reading this I'm assuming you're looking for a therapist. I hate to break it to you, but the "perfect" therapist doesn't exist. However, we could build a therapeutic relationship together that is the perfect solution to the reasons you're looking for a therapist. You might be feeling anxious, depressed, or scared - but you're also feeling ready for change. Try a free consultation with me and let's see if we'd make a good team to tackle some of those worries together.

With a specialization in clinical sex therapy and sex addiction, I work with people on challenges surrounding sexual intimacy, increasing sexual desire and function, sexual compulsivity, exploring sexual lifestyles, infertility support, and gender identity.
Please note, as of September 15, 2023 I have moved to Suite 502, 933 17th Ave. S.W., Calgary AB T2T 5R6. Relationships have different seasons and cycles. Challenges can arise however when great sex (or any intimacy at all) is a distant memory, communication becomes stuck, and a feeling of closeness is longed for again. These are all signs that a different approach is needed to end the frustration and created a renewed aliveness. The desire for intimacy, to feel connected, and to matter are key aspects of who we are as human beings.

As a registered psychologist and sex therapist, I offer individual and couple’s therapy in a non-judgemental environment that is LGBTQ and polyamory/LS Lifestyle/kink affirming, with a focus on healthy relationships and freedom in sexual expression.
Relationships, intimacy, and sexual expression are key to our existence as humans. We thrive on connection. Often from our earliest connections, we learn patterns and coping mechanisms for survival that can get in the way of presence with ourselves and with others and how we want to express ourselves in this world. Learn to communicate in ways that get your needs and wants met. Set boundaries and limits to create peace in your relationships. Work through issues to find the emotional connection, sexual intimacy, and expression that you desire. Release sexual/body/pleasure shame to express yourself fully in this world.

Who is sex therapy for?

Sex problems are common in relationships. Many people want a better sex life and want to feel loved and desired by their partner. It is difficult for couples to resolve sexual problems on their own because people often feel ashamed to talk about their sexual desires fearing they are not normal, when in fact a very broad range of preferences and behaviors are normal. A sex therapist can help clarify this and other matters.

Why do people need sex therapy?

Many people do not know how to talk about their erotic needs or their emotional needs, both of which are addressed in sex therapy. Couples often live with sexual difficulties for years before seeking help, and in that time, partners may experience so much disappointment and alienation that they may fear their problems mean they are incompatible. Once people experience disappointment, it is difficult to find resolution without help.

What happens in sex therapy?

People have many misconceptions about what takes place in sex therapy. First, it is a form of talk therapy in which partners discuss their sexual concerns; it does not involve touching or physical exploration of any kind. Sex therapy typically helps couples get comfortable talking to each other about sex so that, in the privacy of their home life, they can openly discuss their sexual desires and make decisions about what they want to do. Couples are typically assigned activities to do at home that build intimacy skills.

What kinds of problems do sex therapists treat?

Very often, partners differ in their degree of sexual desire and struggle over how often to have sex. Or they may have fights about porn use or have difficulty connecting sexually after one partner is unfaithful. Men may have problems with premature ejaculation. Women may find themselves struggling to become aroused or to achieve an orgasm. Sometimes partners feel like they have lost the sense of attraction to their partner. These are all common issues dealt with in sex therapy.
