I have over a decade of experience working with children, youth and families around various issues including family relationships/conflict,
parenting
support, anxiety, depression, trauma, and grief.
Experiencing challenges in different areas of our lives is a human experience, and some of us find ourselves needing support as we navigate these difficulties. As a clinician, I believe that people are the experts in their own lives and have within them the strength and the capacity to enact change. I see that my role as a therapist is to help empower people to begin making those changes, to write their own life stories, to explore their own values and beliefs about how the world works, and to develop authentic fulfilling relationships.

Working through relational challenges between a
parent
and an adult child 4.
Hello and Welcome! I am a psychologist and feel fortunate to do the work I do. Throughout my many years of clinical experience, I have had the opportunity to help various individuals, couples and families live more satisfying lives. In my work, I use a creative and mindful approach to assist individuals and couples in working through personal obstacles and identifying the factors that often lead to frustration and a feeling of being stuck. My commitment is to understand you and assist you in developing techniques that will create preferred experiences in your life.

My passion is relationships. I love to work with parents who are struggling to manage (and mystified by) their children's behaviours. I adhere to an attachment based
parent
coaching model that puts parents back in the driver's seat. With my couples, I pay particular attention to those interactions where couples get stuck, those moments where the "signals get scrambled'. Using a researched backed model called EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy), I assist couples to de-escalate the emotional reactivity and re-establish the connection in their relationship.

I am a registered child psychologist specializing in helping toddlers, young children (up to age 12), and their families with common emotional, cognitive, and behavioural difficulties. I provide assessment and treatment tailored to meet the specific needs of each child and family. Because young children depend so heavily on those around them to address their developmental needs and challenges, I collaborate closely with parents. The
parent
-child relationship often provides the best opportunity for effective intervention. I provide a respectful and caring environment for parents to understand what their child's behaviour is communicating, what their child needs, and how they can meet those needs.

I apply Play Therapy and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy to help children with anxiety, attention difficulties, stress, behavioural concerns, bullying, grief and loss,
parent
-child conflict, and support children's feelings after their parents' divorce.
Children experience the world differently. Adults can talk; children prefer to play. Play therapy allows freedom and growth. The play experience takes children's focus off negative self-talk and promotes positive self-awareness. Play therapy helps to explore emotions, work through challenges, and nurtures mastery and resilience. As a Registered Play Therapist with advanced training in play therapy, I can help you find a way to connect with your child. A fully equipped playroom with special toys allows children to fully express their feelings, and supports their growth and changes.

I believe mental health is just as important as physical health and believe passionately that when people have someone to listen, they can uncover and understand themselves exponentially. I believe in coming alongside individuals in a compassionate and nonjudgmental way so they feel safe and comfortable sharing their experiences. I believe our past plays an important role in how we navigate situations in the present and work to uncover core beliefs and how they affect our behaviour. I support individuals and couples as well as provide
parent
support for those raising neurodiverse children, such as Autism, ADHD, PDA, Anxiety & FASD.

Parenting
is the most invested relationship one can partake in. There are many tasks and challenges involved in guiding little people towards becoming adults. Life can force families to face events that impact children's ability to feel safe and function successfully. This is when it becomes key to incorporate "it takes a whole community to raise a child", and I believe that people do the best they can with what they know. I have dedicated 23 years to helping children express their needs. And I can help increase your "knowing" so that we can enrich your child's relationships and increase their tolerance for the difficult stuff

What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.
When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.
How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
