I believe balance is fundamental to health and psychological wellbeing. My approach integrates both scientific understanding and spiritual insight, reflecting my view that human beings are inherently multidimensional. I draw from a variety of evidence-based and experiential approaches, including CBT, Somatic Experiencing, Hakomi Body-Centered Psychotherapy, Internal Family Systems, Mindfulness and Meditation, and a Strengths-Based Perspective, alongside influences from Eastern and Western Philosophies and Contemplative Spirituality.

What is making your relationships repetitive or unfulfilling? What is keeping you from communicating effectively with those close to you? What pain, fear or unhelpful beliefs are holding you back or keeping you stuck? What loss are you still grieving? What gives you hope, and a sense of purpose? What are the central questions animating your life?

You’re a high-responsibility professional who carries more weight than you realize. People rely on you to stay steady, make decisions, solve problems, and keep moving at all times. On the outside you look solid, but inside you’re running low: stretched thin and tired of always pushing through. Stress, burnout, and pressure are hitting harder, and the balance you once had keeps slipping. You want clarity, energy, emotional steadiness, and control again, without losing your drive or letting anyone down. I work exclusively virtually, giving you private support that fits your life without adding strain.

Many clients come to ShiftGrit feeling stuck in patterns they can’t easily explain—reactions that feel automatic, emotions that come on quickly, or beliefs that are hard to shake. They’re looking for clarity, direction, and a therapy process that helps them understand why these cycles keep happening. Many want a structured, guided approach that explores the beliefs, early experiences, and protective strategies shaping how they respond today.

I collaborate with you to understand where they’re coming from and how you want to face them. –––––– Together, we consider your unique situation, values, motivations, challenges, and hopes for life. –––––– We tell stories, conjure images, and make meaning out of the chaos of life. We might also share poetry, create art, or explore the power of words. Delight matters. –––––– And we notice what's happening in the moment—our sensations, our thoughts, our emotions. All that stuff is useful information for pursuing the life you want.

I work with individuals facing significant life challenges, including complex often life-changing medical conditions, anxiety, major transitions, and complex trauma—especially those affected by war, displacement, or high-conflict environments. Many feel overwhelmed, stuck, or in “survival mode,” trying to process difficult experiences or adjust to unexpected changes. In our work together, I offer a supportive space to make sense of what you’ve been through, build practical coping strategies, reshape how trauma shows up, and move toward greater stability, direction, and a more meaningful path forward.

Life provides us with a full spectrum of experiences. Just as there are moments of peace, undisturbed existence and triumph, challenges and strife are inevitable. My approach to therapy is one which positions clients as experts in their own lives, recognizing our inherent ability to quell life's storms and invite tranquility. Sometimes unlocking this potential just requires adequate tools, support, and an environment we feel connected to.

Are you ready to go deep? Are you ready to throw caution to the wind, and jump? Are you ready to redefine yourself and your relationships: your relationship with yourself, with your partner, with your colleagues; your relationship with your past, your present, and your future? Have you had enough – enough of how things are, maybe how things have always been? Are you ready for a change? Are you ready to face the scary, confront the difficult, and this time, come out on top? Are you ready to work, invest and sacrifice for the sake of the change? Are you willing to try again – this time differently?

My purpose is to help those with trauma find peace. Trauma has many faces. From haunting memories, and dreams to feeling anxious, angry, and depressed. Ties with friends and family can also be hurt. As much as trauma is painful, it is treatable. Over my 25 years of work, I have become an expert at building coping skills and helping others heal. I have had the honour to work with Canadian military veterans, RCMP, Calgary police, Paramedics and other professionals. I am also experienced working with persons who have been abused by their family and loved ones, motor vehicle accidents and other serious traumas.

FAQ - Therapist Gender
As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
