bereavement
, and my predominant areas of practice include

If you have had traumatic or painful events. if you are in toxic relationships, or if you have addictions, keep reading because I may be able to help you. On a warm Tuesday morning in September, my mother died after a period of great suffering. I could not imagine my life without her, and I did not have any idea how my life was going to continue. Her doctor encouraged me to see my mother’s
death
as though it had brought her freedom. Freedom was a concept that I had never known before; sadness and pain were what I knew. On that day, I started my search of freedom until I found it years later.

I have experience working with individuals who have been coping with trauma,
grief
, anxiety, mood disorders, personality disorders and schizophrenia spectrum disorders.
In challenging times such as those we are experiencing today, it is only normal to feel overwhelmed, anxious, angry and sad. Our world and the life we knew have changed. Some of us lost their jobs, some of us lost activities which were close to their hearts, some of us lost their dreams and plans, and some of us lost their loved ones. Covid-19 constitutes a universal struggle, and it also imposes additional distress for some of us who were already coping with mental health issues. While Covid-19 forces distance, you don't need to be alone with your pain. I believe that every struggle is also an opportunity for personal growth.

While it may take courage to reach out for a first therapy session, nobody is meant to face life's difficulties alone. In my practice, I primarily support those struggling with
grief
and
loss
, anxiety, stress, burnout, depression, emotional regulation, difficult or unexpected life-transitions, communication, and finding a healthy balance in one’s life. In my Counselling and Spirituality Master’s Program, I was taught to consider the whole person in treatment. In this way, if a client wishes to incorporate their values and spirituality in therapy, I am happy to do so in a way that honours their own cultural or faith background.

Concerns like anxiety, depression,
loss
of sense of purpose or identity, or
grief
are overwhelming and many times I hear from clients how alone they feel.
Therapy is both a challenging and rewarding experience, and my goal is to help you make meaningful changes in your life. My approach is to blend acceptance and validation of your emotions with action-oriented strategies to help you begin feeling and living your life differently. Therapy sessions include a combination of having space to share your feelings while also being invited to try new skills and strategies within and between sessions.

Grief Counsellors
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
