"Insanity: Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." - Albert Einstein - As a psychologist, I tend to work with people to focus them on what they can change and control to find successes with their problems. Whether working with couples, families, children, youth, or adults, I'd like to be the guy who listens in a way others may have failed to hear you before. My ideal client is anyone craving new skills, new ways of thinking and feeling, and is ready to learn how to think anew about the things they were once sure of.

The right supports can make a world of difference in navigating the complexities of our emotional well-being. Whether it's a place to reflect and process, to make sense, or to heal, a collaborative and supportive therapeutic relationship can be a key component to understanding our experiences and therefore ourselves more fully. Gaining insight and self-awareness often leads to clarity and direction, with the possibility of aligning to our most authentic selves.

From a young age, I knew I wanted to help others, especially those that seemed to have slipped through the cracks. I started my journey as an in-home aide where I taught life skills to children with special needs and supported their families to learn strategies to make everyday life easier for the whole family. I understand this is an uncomfortable and awkward spot you're in. I am here to ease your mind in this process and make you as comfortable as possible. My clients have told me I have a calm and confident presence. I have a deep passion for my work and I hope to project this when we meet.

During times of heightened stress symptoms related to anxiety, panic, and depression worsen and it can be very hard to maintain hope and positivity during this global crisis. Self-isolating, social distancing, and quarantine are helpful to keep everyone as safe as possible during COVID19, but this also puts added pressure on individuals residing alone, on relationships, and on families. I am passionate about mental and emotional health, and I am available to help you and your loved ones throughout this pandemic and beyond.

I believe therapy is built on trust, safety, and mutual respect, and so I bring my real self to the therapeutic relationship in order to meet and discover the ‘self’ you want to become. Together we will explore the physical, emotional, and environmental factors creating friction in your life, and work towards sustainable and meaningful change. This may include learning new skills, processing emotions, and finding meaning in your past and present experiences. Life is full of challenges, and I will accompany you in learning to build resilience in the face of those challenges, without becoming overwhelmed

I believe that people seek out therapy when they have used all of their personal resources to confront a challenge. Sometimes that challenge is internal, such as depression or anxiety; sometimes it is external, such as life transitions or financial strain; sometimes it is interpersonal, such as couple or family problems. Each person has a different skill set that they have used in their life and therapy is useful when they want to add to that toolbox. It can also help to build reserves before a stressor occurs, such as when couples are deciding to move into together, or before an employee enters a stressful period at work.

Children experience the world differently. Adults can talk; children prefer to play. Play therapy allows freedom and growth. The play experience takes children's focus off negative self-talk and promotes positive self-awareness. Play therapy helps to explore emotions, work through challenges, and nurtures mastery and resilience. As a Registered Play Therapist with advanced training in play therapy, I can help you find a way to connect with your child. A fully equipped playroom with special toys allows children to fully express their feelings, and supports their growth and changes.

My gentle nature and in depth, comprehensive training enables me to work with those whom have experienced traumatic events - including onetime happenings or experiences that have happened over a long time. I am able to connect to many different types of people; those who are eager about counselling and those who hold fear about it. My skills and approaches work best with clients who are ready to engage in deep healing; who are ready to create transformation in their lives by truly integrating their pain into their life history not, have it linger in their present.

How can I find a therapist in Calgary?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or province where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

How much does therapy cost?

Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $3200 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
