As a queer therapist, I understand the challenges of finding inclusive support and the transformative effects of collaborative therapy. I believe the most powerful aspect of therapy is a therapeutic partnership that learns and grows together. This means that I will bring my whole self into our work together and join you in your exploration and identify the things that matter to you. Healing and growth happen in the presence of safety and being truly seen and understood. I offer an anti-oppressive, queer , intersectional, and social justice approach to counselling.

Specializing in addiction/substance use, LGBTQ + identities, anxiety, depression and trauma, I would be happy to work with you.
I strive to work with individuals who are looking to better understand their personal and social identity. Emphasis in the counselling field is often given to learning new thought patterns and coping skills. While I do this in my practice and find it effective, I also discuss the concept of 'unlearning' and its importance for growth, allowing us to create a new foundation which is centred on self-awareness. When we unlearn these 'autopilot' ways of responding to situations, we can create a reality where we are actively in the driver’s seat to create the lifestyle and connections that we find authentic, meaningful and long-lasting.

I specialize in couples therapy dedicated to helping LGBTQ + couples, blended families, couples with anxiety, partners struggling with substance abuse, and premarital counseling.
Do you want to feel more connected to your partner? Do small arguments turn into big blowouts? Do you need to rebuild trust so you can move forward? Passionate, fulfilling, and once-thriving relationships get "stuck" sometimes and partners shut down, become defensive, or passive-aggressive. Many of us lacked examples of healthy relationships in our childhood and this is reflected in our current relationships. But relationships can become “unstuck” when partners gain a deeper understanding of one another and learn healthy communication to reduce conflict.

I believe gay men have inherent worth, and that we deserve fulfilling lives.
Are you a gay man who is overwhelmed by the intensity of your feelings? Do certain situations feel triggering or remind you of a past trauma? It can feel unbearable when you’re just trying to keep it together, and hoping nobody notices when you start breathing rapidly, sweating, or shaking. Even between intense moments, there can be a low-level anxiety that feels like it’s always lurking, ready to take over at any time. Not to mention the shame about not feeling in control of your responses. The good news is that there are specific skills that can be learned to listen to your emotions and think about your past in a whole new way.

I have a special interest working with the LGBTQ * community and strive to create a safe space for them.
I believe each person is the expert in their own life but sometimes along our journey the lens through which we see the world and ourselves becomes a bit muddied and this impacts the way we behave and react to new experiences. My role in your journey is to help you see clearly again through that lens so you can get back to living more true to your authentic self. I work primarily from an attachment lens and have a gentle, yet direct approach to therapy. I work best with clients who aren't afraid to bring a little humor into sessions when appropriate and safe to do so.

As a registered psychologist and sex therapist, I offer individual and couple’s therapy in a non-judgemental environment that is LGBTQ /ENM/kink friendly, with a focus on healthy relationships and sex/intimacy issues.
Relationships, intimacy, and sexual expression are key to our existence as humans. We thrive on connection. Often from our earliest connections, we learn patterns and coping mechanisms for survival that can get in the way of presence with ourselves and with others and how we want to express ourselves in this world. Learn to communicate in ways that get your needs and wants met. Set boundaries and limits to create peace in your relationships. Work through issues to find the emotional connection and sexual intimacy and expression that you desire. Release sexual/body/pleasure shame to express yourself fully in this world.

How can I find a therapist in Calgary?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

How much does therapy cost?

Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $300 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
