A warm hello! Are you known as the dependable one, the person others rely on, yet inside you feel anxious, overwhelmed, and emotionally exhausted? You might find yourself overthinking, second-guessing, or wondering how long you can keep going at this pace. If this feels familiar, you're not alone. Many women I support are used to holding everything together for everyone else, while quietly feeling worn down themselves. Therapy is a space where you don't have to carry it all on your own. I offer online counselling for women navigating anxiety, life transitions, relationship challenges, grief and emotional overwhelm.

While it may take courage to reach out for a first therapy session, nobody is meant to face life's difficulties alone. In my practice, I primarily support those struggling with grief and loss, anxiety, stress, burnout, depression, emotional regulation, difficult or unexpected life-transitions, communication, and finding a healthy balance in one’s life. In my Counselling and Spirituality Master’s Program, I was taught to consider the whole person in treatment. In this way, if a client wishes to incorporate their values and spirituality in therapy, I am happy to do so in a way that honours their own cultural or faith background.

Something brought you here. Maybe you're exhausted in a way sleep doesn't fix. Maybe you've survived something, and it still follows you. Maybe life shifted, and you no longer recognize yourself.
I'm Daria, a counsellor who came to this work through 15 years inside high-stakes environments, including Internet Child Exploitation investigations. I understand trauma that doesn't announce itself. I also bring something rarer: a creative, wide-ranging mind shaped by art, psychology, motherhood, and human complexity. That combination means your experience won't be reduced to a checkbox. It will be explored with full attention and care.

I recognize that finding a therapist that is the right fit can seem like an overwhelming task. Not only is it vulnerable, but at times difficult to get a sense of who this person is or how they might even be able to help. I try to blend my professional knowledge with my human experience; leading with both evidence based practice and heart. I will listen to you with genuine care and curiosity, do my best to ensure you feel heard and valued, provide encouragement, offer new perspectives when needed, and even crack a joke or two with those who fancy it.

Alicia is a compassionate and practiced registered psychologist with years of experience in assessing, diagnosing and counselling for a variety of conditions including ADHD, Autism, Anxiety, and more.
"When someone is struggling, an assessment is such a pivotal step towards learning more about yourself or your child. I start with assessment because it sets the framework for the therapeutic relationship to follow. I’m not searching for a diagnosis, but an answer to why challenges come about. Whether you are a concerned parent or an adult looking for validation of your experience, I’m here to help find the root of the cause."

What issues does family therapy help with?
Family therapy can help families navigate the complex dynamics of family life, including communication challenges and recurring conflict between family members. A therapist can help family members identify dysfunctional patterns in communication and develop healthier ways of relating. Family therapy may also be helpful during major life transitions or stressful events that affect the family system, such as grief, divorce, trauma, relocation, or a serious illness. In some cases, family therapy can support families coping with specific mental health concerns such as anxiety, depression, alcohol or substance use disorders, and eating disorders. In these situations, therapy can provide education and support to family members, as well as to the individual with the mental health diagnosis.
How do I know if my family needs counselling?
Family therapy may be helpful if a family consistently struggles with conflict or communication in a way that affects daily life or relationships. It can also be beneficial when someone in the family is experiencing significant emotional or behavioural changes, such as a family member becoming aggressive, withdrawing, or struggling to cope after a traumatic event. Additionally, some concerns, such as addiction or eating disorders, may be especially important to address in the context of the family unit.
Who attends family counselling sessions?
Family counselling sessions are often attended by members of the immediate family, such as parents, caregivers, children, or siblings. However, other family members may attend when appropriate, including grandparents, stepparents, stepsiblings, or co-parents. Who attends may depend on the family’s needs, the therapist’s recommendations, and the goals of treatment.
Can family therapy be done online?
Family therapy can often be done online. Virtual sessions may be especially convenient when family members live in different locations, have busy schedules, or live in a province, territory, or rural area where family therapists are less accessible. However, online therapy may not be the best fit for every family. In-person care may be more appropriate when there are safety concerns, severe conflict, limited privacy at home, or when young children have difficulty engaging through a screen.
What therapeutic approaches are used in family counselling?
Family therapy can take different forms, including systemic family therapy (exploring how individual actions affect the family), structural family therapy (uncovering the structure and relationship dynamics of the family unit), and attachment-based family therapy (focusing on how bonds between family members shape relationships). Family therapy may also include psychoeducation, which helps family members learn more about a mental health condition and how to respond to it more effectively.
How much does family therapy cost and is it covered by insurance?
Family therapy sessions, which typically last about an hour, often range from $100 to $200 or more, depending on factors such as location, therapist experience, session length, and practice setting. In general, family therapy may cost more than individual therapy because it involves multiple participants and more complex treatment planning. Coverage for family therapy varies by province or territory and by private insurance plan, if applicable. Family therapy provided by a therapist in private practice is often paid out of pocket, although some plans may reimburse services from eligible providers such as psychologists, registered social workers, psychotherapists, or counsellors, particularly when therapy is related to a diagnosed mental health condition affecting someone in the family. Public coverage is generally not an option for family therapy, unless provided through a community clinic or publicly funded agency.
