I aim to empower parents as the "bigger, stronger, wiser, and kind" half of the parent-child relationship, and as such, I walk along side them as they make shifts in order to bring about the change within the
family
that they desire.
Parenting is a wondrous yet often difficult journey. Children's early development takes place within the context of their close relationships. My work focusses on helping to optimize the parent-child relationship as the foundation for a child to reach their potential and have the best possible start in life. I have focussed my career on working with children, including children with developmental differences and various medical challenges through settings such as Montreal Children's Hospital, Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario, and the Alberta Children's Hospital. I look forward to journeying with you on the adventure of parenting.

My approach to counselling is specific to each client I work with. I believe the therapeutic process is highly creative and that it relies equally on both spontaneous diversion and meticulous planning. In addition to direct focus on the individual, I also believe deeply in the power of
family
dynamics, social structure, and the societal pressures that exist in our highly complex modern world.

In addition to depression, anxiety, and anger issues; I have a special focus on
family
wellness.
You have become overwhelmed with your emotions. Socializing, working, household tasks, and taking care of loved ones have become too difficult. I offer counselling services to people who are emotionally sensitive and concerned about their mental health. Common struggles with my clients are: procrastination, concentration, social anxiety, productivity, controlling behaviors, overthinking, hopelessness, worrying, and sleeping. It is emotionally and physically exhausting to experience strong emotional reactions often. It is confusing to understand the root of what is contributing to the overwhelm.

What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
