Can you imagine where you would be if you could go back in time and have “do-over”? Where would you live, what kind of friends would you have, what career would you pursue, and what partner would you choose? Understanding how you got to where you are today helps set a foundation for the future.
Why do we make the choices that we do? Life provides unique experiences that affect people in different ways. These experiences contribute positively or negatively to our well-being and guide our life choices and impulses. It is important to honour the good things we have encountered but it is vital to address the challenges that we have faced, especially when they keep us stuck.

Accepting new clients...Have you reached your limit in pain/stress/worry? Are you growing more concerned about your relationship with alcohol and/or drugs? Or are you worried about the alcohol or drug use of someone you love and you aren't sure what you are 'supposed' to do or not do. Are you starting to realize that maybe you "don't got this", and that you need some help? Patterns of unhealthy or unhelpful behaviours developed over time CAN be changed; coping with trauma and anxiety IS possible. This can be a tough and confusing time, but reaching out for help indicates that you have hope...now it's time to build on that hope.

Hello and Welcome! Did you know that research shows that your relationship with your therapist is one of the strongest predictors of positive outcomes in therapy? That’s why before we do anything else, I make it a priority to take the time to get to know you, understand what matters to you, and to create a space where you feel safe and comfortable enough to share your concerns with me. Seeking help for your mental health is a big and vulnerable step to take and I consider it a privilege to hear your story and share in your journey to personal growth and wellness.

Couples Counselling

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
