Looking for more than just talk therapy? My ideal client is looking for therapy that goes deeper than talk therapy. I have worked for 23 years with clients recovering from anxiety, depression, addiction, trauma, abuse, and codependence. Experience has shown me that using a mind/body approach to therapy is the most effective for healing from these issues. My belief is that our being is grounded in the body and that ignoring the body will have limited lasting success in the treatment of psychological issues.

Life can be beautiful and gut wrenching and everything in between. We often experience a full range of all of this. Sometimes these lived experiences leave us feeling stuck, frustrated, empty or painfully striving for deeper meaning in life. Sometimes we can experience what feels like a complete world collapse. Anxiety, depression, lost spiritual connection and agitation start to feel like the new normal. This doesn’t have to be - connecting to counselling is one support open to you when life seems this way.

I describe myself as a transformational therapist not because it is trendy but because my approach is centred on transformation. Each of us has an internal drive towards healing; we seek to be better than "fine." We all experienced trauma in one form or another, no parent who has ever lived could meet every need we had as children. We all have parts of ourselves that we have cut off, disowned, or devalued. In therapy, we work together to construct a new experience, allowing you to reclaim who you truly are.

Modern life is full of complex pressures—though it doesn’t come with a road map to help us make sense of where we are or where we want to go. Sometimes we get stuck and need some assistance finding direction. Every person has the capacity for growth; yet every person’s story, life experiences, and hurdles are different.

Has life stress become too much? Do you feel like you are just surviving each day? You are not alone. Anxiety and mood issues can manifest in many forms, including low energy, irritability, anger, and more. Identifying and coping with the core issues can lead to better every day functioning and even gaining enjoyment out of life. How is your teen doing with not only school and peer pressure, but also the added stress of COVID-19 and isolation? Working with adolescents is a special area of interest of mine and I can help with issues such as anxiety, depression, bullying, suicidal ideation, and self-harm.

I recognize that significant positive change requires a shift in how we think, feel, and relate to ourselves and others. If you're seeking a way to thrive rather than to just survive, my integrative approach helps clients who may feel stuck in life or overwhelmed, lacking meaning or purpose, dealing with past hurts and traumas, or simply wanting to live their full potential.

What therapy types help with codependency problems?
Both couples and family therapy and cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) can help with the relationship difficulties referred to as codependency. Such problems typically include inappropriate feelings of responsibility for a loved one’s destructive behavior, irrational patterns of thinking about such behavior, and family interaction patterns in which the needs of one troubled member override the needs of others in a household.
What happens in therapy for codependency?
Spouses and family members learn and practice how to interact and support each other in a healthy way without sacrificing their own needs or well-being. They learn the limits of their responsibility for their loved ones and correct faulty patterns of thinking and feeling that underlie codependent behavior. Individuals may be encouraged to nurture an array of social relationships and to cultivate their own talents and interests so that they develop a healthy sense of self outside the family.
How does therapy help a person or couple overcome codependency?
Therapy helps people establish healthy ways of being in a relationship. Spouses and family members learn how to nurture and support one another without sacrificing their own needs or allowing the needs of one person to dominate the dynamic. Individuals learn how to say no and set boundaries, and how to maintain their own identity and self-esteem. Therapy helps people understand that they are not responsible for the feelings and actions of others. It also helps individuals deal with the turbulence that can come from living with a person suffering from such conditions as substance abuse and mental illness.
What is the goal of therapy for codependency?
One goal of therapy for codependency is to alleviate feelings of responsibility for and correct irrational patterns of thinking about loved ones whose behavioral problems override the needs of others in a household. Therapy helps people establish healthy boundaries of behavior and speak up for their own needs in a relationship. In addition, people learn how to maintain a healthy relationship, one in which both parties give and receive equally and are able to retain their own identity.
