Thank you for viewing my profile. I feel privileged to work with people who are willing to reveal who they really are in order to help themselves grow and change. It is through the process of self-discovery, reflection, and willingness to make changes that we are able to come closer to being our authentic selves. Gaining insight into your situation, learning about yourself and the issue you are facing, and developing new ways of coping with life's challenges are part of that process.

Has anxiety and depression become amplified for you with issues from the past resurfacing? Maybe you have been to counselling before but would like to try a more holistic approach; one that will teach you the tools needed to overcome feelings of sadness, dread and uncertainty? Often times, experiences buried from childhood and the past resurface as adults which can greatly affect the way we feel and our sense of purpose in the world. It isn’t until things get so uncomfortable, that we feel the only option available is to make a change. This isn’t always easy but reaching out for support, is the first and most important step.

I've seen many in the world of mental health try to artificially separate mental health concerns into neat boxes, as if clients are going to conveniently fit into a box. I believe this is unrealistic at best, and harmful at worst - people need to be understood in their entirety, and therapy should adapt to the whole of what they present. Clients who are working to overcome the barriers of mental health struggles, while also trying to thrive in relationships, work, school, and other important domains of life.

As a queer therapist, I understand the challenges of finding inclusive support and the transformative effects of collaborative therapy. I believe the most powerful aspect of therapy is a therapeutic partnership that learns and grows together. This means that I will bring my whole self into our work together and join you in your exploration and identify the things that matter to you. Healing and growth happen in the presence of safety and being truly seen and understood. I offer an anti-oppressive, queer, intersectional, and social justice approach to counselling.

Living with chronic illness, disability, or neurodivergence is hard. Getting through the overwhelm of everyday life feels impossible. You're starting to feel like all you think about is your condition and everything it has taken away from you - work, hobbies, sleep, relationships. Your family and friends don’t get it. They try to help and probably mean well, but sometimes the dismissive way they say things makes you feel worse. You try to hide your symptoms to seem “normal” but inside, you feel like you might break.

I believe that as humans, we should live our best authentic life filled with happiness, meaning, and purpose. Everyone deserves happiness and rewarding relationships. Sometimes, our past and present experiences interfere with this. My intention is to help guide you as you walk towards living your best authentic life. I acknowledge that very often, we fail to look after our own mental health because of the numerous challenges that we face daily. Simple acts of kindness to the self are very important and I believe that each one of us has unique strengths and qualities that can help us shift from struggling to thriving.

Mental health issues can feel like you’re standing at the bottom of a mountain, without the energy to climb it. I believe in using a ladder approach to those mountains - taking each step one rung at a time. Through counselling, we can work on making that mountain more manageable for you. I practice an integrative approach that draws on cognitive behaviour therapy, dialectical behaviour therapy, and acceptance and commitment therapy.

I think everyone should have a therapist. I realize how self-serving that sounds, but if we see a medical doctor on a regular basis (yes, you should do that too!) for our physical health, why wouldn’t we have someone in our pocket for mental health as well? If there is a stigma around mental health, there is stigma of having a therapist as well. I regularly meet with people that have never accessed a mental health professional and after one session you can see the anxiety leave them as I help take away those social pressures and instead focus on you, that’s what I want, to be team YOU!

How can I find a therapist in Calgary?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

How much does therapy cost?

Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $300 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
