Do you evaluate yourself constantly, miss out on what you want because of how you feel, or treat yourself worse than you would a stranger? A life beyond disruptive mood, anxiety, and self-worth issues may be closer than you think. Take a breath, notice your feet, and imagine what it would be like to be totally at home in your own body, knowing exactly how to respond to difficult emotions when they arise. Imagine feeling okay just as you are and showing up for yourself like a trusted friend who will always have your back.

I also specialize in relational difficulties (with your partner, family, friends, or colleagues), anxiety, depression, trauma, as well as life and career transitions.
People go to therapy for many reasons, and all of them are equally valid. Whatever your reason is, I am so glad that you are here. You may be considering therapy right now because you are feeling stuck - stuck in difficult thoughts, feelings, emotions, relationships, and/or situations. Or, you may be mostly doing fine and want to develop self-awareness and understanding to become the best version of yourself and to live your life to the fullest. Sometimes we all need someone who can provide an objective viewpoint, outside of friends and family.

My current practice includes assessment and therapy for schizophrenia and psychosis, mood and adjustment issues (grief/loss, depression, Bipolar Disorder), anxiety issues, obsessive-compulsive patterns (OCD), trauma and stress, sleep issues, addictions, anger management, and relationship issues.
I believe that psychology is a tool for solving problems and working through change. In my career, I have helped many people 'get unstuck', overcoming emotional difficulties and working through trauma, grief, and loss. I also regularly work with couples and families, helping with challenges including marital conflict and parenting difficulties. My approach is integrative, and tailored to each person that I meet. I draw upon a number of evidenced-based approaches, including emotion-focused therapy, psychodynamic therapy, cognitive-behavioural therapy, experiential therapy, motivational interviewing, and solution-focused therapy.

I use both Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to help my clients address emotional disorders, including depression, anxiety and trauma.
So many of us can relate to the experience of feeling stuck. Maybe we've been hurt by loved ones and struggle to feel a sense of trust and connectedness. Some of us feel caught in patterns that aren't serving us, such as anger, racing thoughts, perfectionism, or self-criticism. Intense emotions may overwhelm and confuse us, causing us to spiral or lash out at others. Despite our best efforts and intentions, we may find ourselves unable to change these destructive patterns. We want to stop feeling overwhelmed and out of control. We want to feel understood, accepted, more balanced emotionally and secure with others.

I'll help you navigate challenging feelings and painful memories while exploring practical tools to help manage the anxiety that often comes with them.
You feel anxious, disconnected and overwhelmed. It often feels like you experience things "too much" and "too deeply". You're ready to learn to hold space for all of your emotions and feel more present in your life. You're used to prioritizing others needs over your own and seek more balance and reciprocity in your relationships. After everything you’ve been through, you’re ready to move beyond old survival tools and start making choices that feel more aligned with your values and rediscover yourself. You’re looking to strengthen communication, improve your connection, and find more fulfillment in your relationships.

I offer counselling to people that are highly sensitive and highly empathic. Many of my clients are intuitive and seem to know things and see things that others aren't aware of. This often leaves them feeling out of place, isolated, and unsure if they can trust themselves. A common issue is being in relationships where you over give but are told you are not doing enough. This can lead to overthinking, overanalyzing, anxiety, depression, and low-self esteem. You might know what you want to do, what you want to say but get stuck because of the worry of hurting the other person's feelings.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
