I have a passion for working with adults to address their trauma, situational and chronic stressors, anxiety , depression, interpersonal issues, grief and loss, and life transitions.
*NOW ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS* I operate from a trauma-informed person-centered approach, as I know that I am inviting clients to reveal vulnerable parts of themselves and should be met with nonjudgment and unconditional positive regard. My person-centered approach allows me to shift from a deficit based perspective to a strength-based perspective, allowing for a relational depth that transcends labels. My practice is grounded in providing affirming care to assist clients in embracing personal self-worth and bolstering personal agency.

I have a special interest in fatherhood and co-parenting issues, and also excel in working with anxiety , depression, relationship distress, and trauma.
Learning about yourself is an enlightening and important process. Therapy is personal. It’s about your life, passions, desires, and challenges. Finding the right therapist for you is key in your therapeutic success. My strength as a psychologist comes from my ability to build relationships of trust with patients, guiding them on a journey of self-discovery and healing, while leveraging my experience in both clinical assessment and talk-therapy to design an approach that creates momentum.

My areas of specialty are: Major life changes, past or current trauma, anxiety and related issues, depression and mood disruption, and other meaningful concerns.
When is it time to seek a therapist? There is no hard and fast rule; however, if you are having recurring worries, personal or interpersonal problems, or difficulty managing in other important areas of life, and the way through is elusive – I can help. I believe it is possible to develop constructive approaches to life challenges that foster resilience, reduce stress, and strengthen coping skills to result in a life of intention rather than reaction, that is heartfelt instead of numb, and the ability to move from confusion to self-awareness.

It can be frustrating and confusing when life looks good on the outside but doesn’t feel good on the inside; feeling tired, overwhelmed and disconnected from the things you worked so hard to have. Therapy may seem like one more thing to do in an already busy life, but there is a part of you that knows it could make a difference by helping you feel more confident, connected, present, energetic, successful, clear-headed, and fun. As a Ph.D. level Clinical Psychologist, I have spent the past 10 years successfully treating adults with depression, anxiety , OCD, insomnia, perfectionism, life stress, and relationship difficulties.

You don’t have to continue to feel overwhelmed with anxiety , hurt, guilt or self doubt and you don’t have to do it alone.
This wasn’t the way it was supposed to be. You want to appear like you have it “all together”, but deep down you are anything but. Stressed out, anxious and full of self-doubt, you feel alone and overwhelmed as you struggle with unexpected challenges. Clients come to me looking for a therapist who has clinical experience and life experience because therapy should be a place where you feel safely guided by someone who can offer ideas and strategies when you feel stuck.

I have experience working with individuals who have been coping with trauma, grief, anxiety , mood disorders, personality disorders and schizophrenia spectrum disorders.
In challenging times such as those we are experiencing today, it is only normal to feel overwhelmed, anxious, angry and sad. Our world and the life we knew have changed. Some of us lost their jobs, some of us lost activities which were close to their hearts, some of us lost their dreams and plans, and some of us lost their loved ones. Covid-19 constitutes a universal struggle, and it also imposes additional distress for some of us who were already coping with mental health issues. While Covid-19 forces distance, you don't need to be alone with your pain. I believe that every struggle is also an opportunity for personal growth.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
