Therapy, at its most basic, is 'talking.' That’s why you’re reading through these profiles. You're looking for the right person to talk to about things that matter. If it helps, here is what experience has taught me: We are each unique. Our problems are equally unique. But all problems seem to grow from one common root: disconnection. Disconnection can be felt in many ways: insecurity, sadness, emptiness, pain, and anger . Troubled feelings such as these often lead to troubled responses, including but not limited to: anxiety, depression, addiction, disordered eating, relationship conflict, violence, self-harm and suicide.

In addition to depression, anxiety, and anger issues; I have a special focus on family wellness.
You are feeling overwhelmed and wish life was easier for you. Socializing, working, household tasks, and taking care of loved ones have become too difficult. I offer counselling services to people who are concerned about their mental health. I work with people who struggle with: burnout, procrastination, social anxiety, motivation, overthinking, hopelessness, worrying, and sleeping. It is emotionally and physically exhausting to experience strong emotional reactions often. It is confusing to understand the root of what is contributing to the overwhelm.

Are you struggling to break your bad habits and keep healthy relationships? Maybe you're repeating unhelpful behaviors no matter how hard you try to change. Are you dealing with the consequences of impulsive decisions, losing control, or substances? Often, these actions are the ways you learned to cope with the stresses of life to protect yourself or overcome challenges during difficult periods. When these coping mechanisms show up in life and relationships, they frequently contribute to conflict and pain. I help teens and adults struggling with addictions, men's issues and anger management to move toward greater ease and enjoyment.

I believe that psychology is a tool for solving problems and working through change. I also regularly work with couples and families, helping with challenges including marital conflict and parenting difficulties. My approach is integrative, and tailored to each person that I meet. I draw upon a number of evidenced-based approaches, including emotion-focused therapy, psychodynamic therapy, cognitive-behavioural therapy, experiential therapy, motivational interviewing, and solution-focused therapy.

I aim to approach conversations through a non-pathologizing, respectful lens and to honour people's lived experience. Those who consult me come in to discuss a broad spectrum of issues, such as: depression, anxiety, anger , trauma, grief/loss, relationship difficulties, self-doubt, crises of identity, body image struggles, and experiences of injustice based on race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation/identity, etc.

Everyone experiences times in life where they feel that life is out of control. My goal as a clinical psychologist is to help recreate the balance that you are looking for. My main therapeutic orientation is Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), which is proven to be effective for depression, anxiety, addictions, anger , trauma and many other challenges that we face in life. However, therapy is catered to the individual and we can find a strategy that works best for you.

I work in many areas of mental health, but specifically in the areas of managing life’s stresses, anxiety/depression, anger , grief & loss, as well as addictions.
I think everyone should have a therapist. I realize how self-serving that sounds, but if we see a medical doctor on a regular basis (yes, you should do that too!) for our physical health, why wouldn’t we have someone in our pocket for mental health as well? If there is a stigma around mental health, there is stigma of having a therapist as well. I regularly meet with people that have never accessed a mental health professional and after one session you can see the anxiety leave them as I help take away those social pressures and instead focus on you, that’s what I want, to be team YOU!

But that doesn’t mean sex, loss, and anger are not part of the mix.
Hi, I’m Gio (they/them), and if you're reading this I'm assuming you're looking for a therapist. I hate to break it to you, but the "perfect" therapist doesn't exist. However, we could build a therapeutic relationship together that is the perfect solution to the reasons you're looking for a therapist. You might be feeling anxious, depressed, or scared - but you're also feeling ready for change. Try a free consultation with me and let's see if we'd make a good team to tackle some of those worries together.

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
