I believe in personalizing and customizing treatments plans to meet the needs of the individual client, rather than trying to fit all clients into one or two psychotherapy modes. I work in partnership with clients to assist them in prioritizing and exploring their issues, in a safe, positive, environment. Treatment plans are flexible, evolving with the needs of the individual person. Appointment times and dates are also very flexible, with evening appointments available as needed.

Do you feel like you are living in misalignment with the things you care about? That you're stuck, living with unmet potential and spend time focusing on things that don't match your values? At work or in your relationships, this could be showing up as a big sense of distraction, even though you’re doing so much, it seems like you’re getting nowhere. You have high hopes and big dreams, but feel disconnected and stuck. Something might feel “off” and it’s hard for you to feel motivated to keep going through motions without procrastinating and delaying, and you might have a difficult time not repeating the same negative behaviours.

Why do we make the choices that we do? Life provides unique experiences that affect people in different ways. These experiences contribute positively or negatively to our well-being and guide our life choices and impulses. It is important to honour the good things we have encountered but it is vital to address the challenges that we have faced, especially when they keep us stuck.

I work best with thoughtful, capable individuals and couples who feel emotionally overwhelmed, mentally exhausted, disconnected, or stuck carrying the weight of life on their own. Many of the people I support are struggling with anxiety, burnout, relationship stress, self-doubt, caregiving pressures, or difficulty slowing down and being present in their lives. Together, we work toward building greater self-understanding, healthier coping patterns, stronger relationships, and a more grounded sense of balance and direction.

Are you open to new possibilities? In order to understand who you want to be, you have to know who you are first. Gain insight and awareness into your situation, and learn to extract the lessons from your past struggles to develop new ways of coping and managing the challenges in your life. From early on, people learn behaviors to protect themselves for survival — but what worked in the past may no longer be helpful today. When basic human needs aren’t met, the outcome is often depression, anxiety, relationship conflict, or even addiction.

Alcohol Use Counsellors
Are there specific medications for alcohol use?
There are oral medications approved to treat alcohol use disorder—such as disulfiram, acamprosate, and naltrexone, which also comes in an injectable form. These medications do help people reduce their drinking as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone helps reduce cravings, disulfiram can make a person feel sick when they drink, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.

How do alcohol recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other patients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals live at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff can also include people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other tools for recovery.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for alcohol use reduce the amount of alcohol they intake. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
