Life can be tricky. Are ups and downs causing a collection of past hurts which cause you to feel misunderstood, overwhelmed, hopeless or just plain tired of dealing with others, or even with yourself? It’s ok to not be ok. You deserve relief in your life to move from just surviving toward thriving in your life.

I am a Registered Psychologist in Alberta offering in-person services in Calgary & virtual services throughout AB. I have experience working with Adults through a number of issues including trauma, anxiety, depression, boundaries, self-esteem, emotional regulation, childhood abuse/sexual assault, healthy sexuality, and self-awareness/identity. I specialize in working with adults who have experienced trauma in their life. Trauma can look different for each and every person; what may be traumatizing for one, may not be for another. You define what it means for you, & together, we can work towards lessening the impact of these events.

I integrate a variety of Cognitive, Solution-Focused, Strengths-Based, Existential, and
Mindfulness
-based techniques to help clients take steps to change their current situations.
I strive to meet my clients where they are at, and to help them achieve the changes they seek. I believe that under the right circumstances, clients have the capacity to look inward, to free themselves from feeling stuck in the past, and to find new ways to move forward. This often requires hard work, but growth and change are possible when clients are given a safe space to explore unhelpful patterns of thinking and learn to think in healthier ways. By clarifying their personal meaning, clients can be empowered to choose new directions in life.

I've worked in the field of addiction for over 10 years and during that time I came to see how cognitive approaches alone were often not able to provide the level of healing that was necessary for clients to experience the emotional freedom that they desired. This led me down a path of discovering the transformative nature of somatic therapies. Now I work with women to restore the connection to the wisdom that lives within their bodies, using evidence-based somatic techniques including breathwork,
mindfulness
and movement.

My clinical approach integrates cognitive-behavioral,
mindfulness
-based, and attachment-focused approaches.
I am deeply passionate about helping clients who are struggling with regulating difficult emotions (anger, anxiety, sadness), coping with stress or chronic illness, and navigating complex relationships, current or past. Often, we all need an objective compassionate outside perspective to help us go through challenging circumstances and I strive to provide this to all my clients. I work with clients to set realistic and attainable goals in areas they wish to work on as well as process emotions that are bubbling up and getting in the way of pursuing value directions.

mindfulness
body-center therapy), clients experience relief from their pain and powerlessness in both their minds and bodies.
I am committed to helping my clients develop the confidence, self-compassion and effective life-management skills that are necessary for healthy relationships with both themselves and others. Using a compassionate, collaborative and mindful approach, I help clients get clear on what is at the root of their stress or unhealthy behaviours, and support them in overcoming the internal barriers getting in their way of being their truest selves. Using techniques that focus on accessing my clients' inner resources, strengths, and innate ability to heal, I help them create exactly the life they want.

Styles of therapy you may encounter are: Narrative Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, or
Mindfulness
-Based Cognitive Therapy.
I've been working in the mental health field for over 15 years now and understand the importance of finding a professional you can connect with. I work with a variety of clients and provide sex-positive, kink allied therapy for individuals and couples of all relational dynamics (mono/ENM/poly). My goal is to start by creating a foundation of trust and then customizing techniques to best support you. Is it as simple as having a space where you can show up and be heard? Perhaps you're wanting to learn some customized coping skills? Or, maybe you've found you're feeling stuck and don't know what you need, I can help with that too.

I find meaning working with people from all different backgrounds, stages and walks of life. With compassion and insight, I aim to provide a space where your concerns are heard, cared for, and validated. I'm convinced that people are more than the challenges that they face.

I work from a client centered approach as the basis for our work together. We can then decide on which of the empirically supported approaches (or more likely which combination of approaches) is the best fit for you and your situation. The basis is a non-judgmental stance to what you face and designing a tailored, you-specific, empirically supported approach to help you gain a better understanding of your situation and more adaptive ways of managing or coping. I borrow from various approaches including client-centered, Cognitive-behavioral, Acceptance and Commitment,
Mindfulness
-based, Emotion focused, and insight oriented.

As a relationship counsellor, I help individuals, couples and families build healthy, relationships within themselves and with those around them, focusing on improving connection, communication, and conflict resolution through
mindfulness
and emotional regulation strategies.
In relationships when great sex (or any intimacy at all) is a distant memory, communication becomes stuck, and a feeling of closeness is longed for again, these become signs that a different approach is needed to end the frustration and renew aliveness. The desire for intimacy, to feel connected, and to matter are key aspects of who we are as human beings.

I aim to meet my clients apart from the pretension and stigmas of the psychology world, as well as the norms of culture/society in general. Creating a space apart from all the things we think we need to be and should be allows for an authenticity to engage the obstacles in life in a new way. Therapy should not be “one size fits all” and so with the expertise that you have of your life, combined with my skills and training, we can work together to get past both the internal and external things keeping you from being more of the human you were meant to be; creating a new mental space where you can continue to grow and thrive.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Counsellors
How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.
When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behaviour through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.
What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviours and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.
Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioural habits.
