Specializing in:
relationship
issues, trauma, recovery, emotional regulation, depression, anxiety, phobias, family conflict, grief, and working with concerns presenting in the body such as chronic pain, fibromyalgia, and fatigue.
I believe in the resilience of the human spirit and our ability to heal. I also know that we can get lost, and having someone support us as we navigate our path back to health can be life-changing. Therapy can be scary, and you may not be sure where to start. That is a shared experience, and together we will work to put the presenting problem into words and create a plan for our work. If you have made it this far in your search, you are looking for something. Even if you can not put it into words, I invite you to book a session.

"Insanity: Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." - Albert Einstein - As a psychologist, I tend to work with people to focus them on what they can change and control to find successes with their problems. Whether working with
couples
, families, children, youth, or adults, I'd like to be the guy who listens in a way others may have failed to hear you before. My ideal client is anyone craving new skills, new ways of thinking and feeling, and is ready to learn how to think anew about the things they were once sure of.

I work with adults, teens, and
couples
facing life's ordinary and extraordinary challenges.
These are unprecedented times, rife with unprecedented challenges. The uncertainty of the situation, the lack of a map for understanding the present and envisioning the future, is a source of chronic stress for almost everyone one, and takes a particularly heavy toll on some. Its impacts are being felt at every level, experienced in ways that continue to evolve and that may be overwhelming. We are all new to this situation, but we are not new to grappling with unforeseen problems or having to pick our way though the unknown. Helping people to do that, even in ordinary times, is what my work is all about.

relationship
challenges). Together, we can make sense of your current situation and determine how you can improve your wellbeing and overall life satisfaction. I have worked with diverse populations and welcome all adults.

I have over 15 years of experience supporting individuals and
couples
from an incredibly diverse range of backgrounds.
Our journey in life is wrought with obstacles, twists, and turns that can feel overwhelming. Some of the barriers we face are erected by outside forces: events in our lives, identities we had no influence over, social structures we cannot dismantle on our own. Others we unwittingly create or amplify ourselves. Most of us need some help along the way. I admire the courage it takes to seek this help and I’m confident that I can effectively guide you toward improved mental health and wellbeing. Often, mental health concerns are not so much the result of distorted views of the world; the views are merely incomplete.

Accepting New Clients! I have 16 yrs of experience providing sexuality and
relationship
counselling. I have found the depth of the topics related to relationships and sexuality to be fascinating. These topics are rarely discussed openly or in detail and often referred to in euphemistic terms that further cloud information. Yet, they are such primary and important parts of being human. While relational issues don't constitute your whole life, they can certainly colour your entire life. I use a multidisciplinary, trauma-informed approach to get clients the best results possible. Contact me today for info or to book an appointment.

If you're struggling with mental health or
relationship
challenges, it can feel like your life is out of control and falling apart. It's not uncommon to feel overwhelmed, scared, hopeless, helpless and alone. Or to feel numb. We all experience occasional difficulties in response to life’s challenges, but there are times when we feel particularly stuck or discouraged and we need some extra support. It can be difficult to share your most private experiences with someone new, especially if those experiences have caused you shame. At Monarch Psychology, we have a deep respect for those who are willing to pursue counselling.

Your journey is unique, and your therapy should be tailored to your needs and experiences. You can bring your whole self to our time together - laughter, tears, anger, joy, or grief, and the many layers of yourself. You're here because you want to be seen and heard, for someone to understand how much you've been through and how desperately you want things to change. I support both individuals and
couples
, and specialize in supporting people in the queer community, neurodivergent folks, as well as those navigating stress, anxiety, and those nurturing their self-esteem and overcoming people pleasing patterns. All are welcome!

People have different needs in counselling - some want to be heard and make sense of their experiences, while others want to learn new skills to navigate individual or
relationship
problems. I work with people who want to improve their mental health or relationships. You might meet with me to process difficult experiences, cope with uncomfortable thoughts and feelings, or change something about your behaviour. You might have been asked to attend counselling by someone else, like a loved one or court. In this case, I will work to clarify what you want to improve and we can focus on this.

Couples Counselling
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
