Hi there! My name is Rebecca and I'm a counsellor who works with
adults
in varying populations in their journey through self-evolution and empowerment. I'm especially passionate about working with first responders and the LGBTQ+ community. Our lived experiences as humans can vary greatly, but the 'human condition' is something we all share. Common themes exist between all of us… albeit race, gender, socioeconomic status, etc. Themes such as loneliness, fear, joy, and most evidently (i.e. research reinforced) our innate need for "connection"…true connection to ourselves and to the ones we love most dearly. My goal is to provide individuals (i.e. pre-adolescents, adolescents,
adults
) and/or families alike the chance to feel unconditionally supported as they seek the aid they require for psychological well-being…to walk beside you on your therapeutic journey.

I am a Registered Psychologist, and I work with
adults
and youth interested in individual, couples and family therapy by helping them (re)connect to their purpose and power.
I approach counselling through a holistic lens; believing that ‘the whole is greater than the sum of its parts’. We are complex beings and the way in which our bodies and minds are connected is similar to a network of intertwining webs communicating with one another. The consideration of nutrition, personal purpose and beliefs, sleep, physical exercise, and social connections can make a huge difference when designing a treatment plan. You are the expert of your own life. My job is to ask meaningful questions, to collect and synthesize information, and work closely with you to design your treatment journey.

As a generalist, I support children,
adults
, couples, and families with a wide range of presenting concerns.
It takes courage to seek help, so I commend you for taking this first step. Although therapy can seem intimidating, I view it as just like any other health service, such as the dentist or chiropractor. Just like how we visit the dentist if we have severe tooth pain or need a routine cleaning, I am here for both your traumatic experiences as well as maintenance sessions. No issue is too small when working with me and my practice, Arcadia Counselling. No one is meant to struggle alone, which is where I come in. Therapy looks different for everyone whether that is a place to unload, learn techniques, or improve your quality of life.

How can I find a therapist in Southwest Calgary, Calgary?
Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or province where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
How much does therapy cost?
Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $3200 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
