Hey! Thanks for taking the time to check out my profile :) I've been working in the mental health field for over 15 years now and understand the importance of finding a professional you can connect with. My goal in counselling is to start by creating a foundation of trust and then customizing techniques to best support you. Is it as simple as having a space where you can show up and be heard? Perhaps you're wanting to learn some customized coping skills? Or, maybe you've found you're feeling stuck and don't know what you need, I can help with that too.

Not Accepting New Clients- I am experienced in Child and Adolescent Mental Health, where I worked for the past 20+ years with AHS. I am well-versed in assessment and therapy with children and teens who present with mental health concerns, so their families can live healthier, more productive, and more fulfilling lives. Or, are you looking for someone who specializes in relationships - your partner, your children, your family? When you stop expecting people to be perfect, you can like them for who they are. I greatly enjoy supporting couples, families, parents, and children alike, who present with much strength, although in distress.

I believe that people seek out therapy when they have used all of their personal resources to confront a challenge. Sometimes that challenge is internal, such as depression or anxiety; sometimes it is external, such as life transitions or financial strain; sometimes it is interpersonal, such as couple or family problems. Each person has a different skill set that they have used in their life and therapy is useful when they want to add to that toolbox. It can also help to build reserves before a stressor occurs, such as when couples are deciding to move into together, or before an employee enters a stressful period at work.

Do you ever feel alone, disconnected from yourself and from other people in your life? Have you lost your sense of yourself, your purpose and passion? You are not alone. Most people struggle at various ages and stages in life. Many things can interfere with our enjoyment of life. Sometimes we need the help of an independent professional who will listen with compassionate ears and is skilled in creative strategies to help us gain new perspectives and tap into our own inner wisdom. We can then create our own path toward greater self-connection, healing and life balance.

Does your child or teenager have difficulty in school? Are they putting in an extensive amount of time and energy just to get proficient grades? Does it seem like they are not reaching their full potential? Are they struggling to maintain their focus and concentration? Or, do you think they are gifted? As each child is unique in their learning, parents and school based teams often look to psychologists to support individuals who have varying needs. This includes individuals who have learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, ADHD, anxiety and mood disorders, Autism, behavior concerns, and who are intellectually gifted.

Whether this is the first time you’re seeking out therapy, or if you have done this before, the process can be overwhelming. With that being said, just know that by being here you’ve taken an important step forward in your healing & growth. The first thing I want you to know about me is that I’m deeply passionate about the work I do. I feel incredibly privileged to be able to sit with individuals and share a space with the emotions, experiences, and struggles that come up in a session. I try to create a calm, safe, and non judgemental atmosphere so you feel comfortable sharing in a new space.

It takes courage to seek help, so I commend you for taking this first step. Although therapy can seem intimidating, I view it as just like any other health service, such as the dentist or chiropractor. Just like how we visit the dentist if we have severe tooth pain or need a routine cleaning, I am here for both your traumatic experiences as well as maintenance sessions. No issue is too small when working with me and my practice, Arcadia Counselling. No one is meant to struggle alone, which is where I come in. Therapy looks different for everyone whether that is a place to unload, learn techniques, or improve your quality of life.

The process of dealing with a motor vehicle accident, head injury (mTBI), or sports injury can be life changing. The impact of a traumatic event can filters into every part of a person’s life. Support in processing and integrating an experience like this is possible and can be transformative. My background in the areas of injury rehabilitation, PTSD/trauma, concussion care, chronic pain management, and sport psychology, forms the base of my counselling/clinical work with clients. Together we will work through the emotional trauma caused by mTBI, PTSD, and the emotional distress caused by these injuries. It’s time to START LIVING!

How can I find a therapist in Southwest Calgary, Calgary?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or province where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

How much does therapy cost?

Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $3200 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
