*ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS * “ I can’t seem to shut my brain off”, “Why do I feel so anxious all the time?”, “ I actually don’t feel anything, I’m numb”. If any of these statements resonate with you and you want to explore them further I might be of help! I am a people person that truly believes in the power of human connection and therefore place a great importance on the right fit between a therapist and a client. My work is very much based on a collaborative approach because “You” know “You” the best. It’s important to me that you will feel comfortable and safe to explore and address any issues you are struggling with.

I work from a trauma-informed and mindfulness-based perspective, with a compassionate and gentle approach to trauma, addiction, grief, and
relationship
issues.
We all carry multiple stories about our selves, our lives, and our experiences. There are parts in our stories that are sometimes hidden from our awareness. It is in the calm noticing, re-discovery, and re-telling of our stories that we can find and connect with parts of ourselves that may need healing, and also parts of ourselves that are insightful, strong, and brilliant even in the midst of hardship and darkness. Through facilitating, witnessing, and holding space together, we can engage in our personal work of healing. I look forward to connecting with you.

This past few years have been challenging both physically and mentally. You may have noticed an increase in your levels of stress, anxiety, or depression and a decrease in your abilities to cope with everything that's going on in the world. Your
relationship
may have deteriorated due to external stressors and spending too much time together in close quarters. If you can relate to any of the above statements, you aren't alone, and the good news is that you don't have to face it on your own.

Whether you are looking for better ways to manage or reduce stress, manage anxiety, improve your relationships or to recover from trauma, I am here to work with you as a
partner
on your journey.
Everyone struggles with certain things at different times in their lives. Mental wellness is a journey, not a destination and we are all at different points along the path. Sometimes, we need help guiding our steps and knowing how best to keep going. My ideal client may be struggling with issues related to anxiety, depression, relationships, trauma or personality disorders. Generally, they realize that things in their life are just not working and they want to learn new ways of behaving, thinking and relating to themselves and others to make lasting changes. My practice with clients is collaborative and supportive.

Grief and loss is an experience all of us will go through at some point in our lives. Losing a child,
spouse
, parent, friend, or anyone you are close to and love is not an easy experience to cope with. Grief and loss evokes many emotional, spiritual, psychological and physical pain that may leave some people feeling paralyzed, crippled, and unable to function at the fullest of their ability. When this happens, you need support, someone to walk with you, be there to support you to learn to live with your loss. Recovery seeking individuals also welcome.

in clinical psychology plus professional development prepares me to help people through a change process to deal with depression, anxiety, stress, low self-esteem,
relationship
concerns, and effects of trauma or abuse.
Experienced Ph.D. level registered psychologist, practicing in Calgary since 1987. I enjoy helping motivated individuals in therapy. I combine clinical training with personal authenticity and sensitivity to diversity and socialization influences on how we handle what we are facing. Effective therapy is collaborative and empowering, with therapist and clients working together to make positive changes towards the clients' goals. This may involve learning to self-soothe, anti-depressant behaviours, and homework between sessions. Good therapy builds on strengths.

Couples Counselling
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
