It’s true – life is a balancing act. And so is psychological health.
My aim as a psychologist is to help clients re-tune their nervous systems in a way that leads to greater independence and freedom from unnecessary suffering.
How do we do this? To speak metaphorically, our brain/body systems function much like strings on a musical instrument – when each string is tuned, the instrument produces a resonant frequency; but when one or more systems is out of sync, the resonance of the whole system suffers.
We target three key brain/body systems, colloquially described here as: (1) the soothing system; (2) the stress system; and (3) the seeking system.
I use several methods to tailor treatment plans to each unique individual. Acceptance and commitment therapy is a behavioural method for producing functional change in clients' seeking systems.
Brainspotting and pain reprocessing therapy shift brain-body connections out of restrictive states of stress to enhance soothing and a felt sense of safety.
So whether you experience stress/burnout, anxiety/depression, or aim to recover from past traumas and/or chronic pain, call and we can make first steps toward effective change.
