Partner Abuse (start date to be determined)

Working in groups help to quickly overcome the shame and stigma surrounding men's violence in intimate relationships. There is power in speaking with others in the same boat, and in recognizing the shared plight of women. Many problems considered individual and psychological are recognized as common and social, requiring political solutions. Self-esteem is restored as women realize they've been duped by patriarchy's fictions into living partial lives, tolerating mistreatment, keeping silent, etc. Topics will include why women stay; the 8 types of abuse; brainwashing; anger as strength; impact on kids; how to avoid the same trap.

Mothers Who Have Lost a Child to Suicide

When a mother's worst nightmare is realized through the suicide of her child, she can be overwhelmed with grief and the idea that she has completely failed as a mother. There can be crushing fatigue, unmitigated despair, and a collapse of normal functioning. Meanwhile there is pressure on her as ‘mother' to resume her role as family caretaker. This group will create a compassionate space for mothers to come together to support each through catastrophic loss; to give voice to unsayable feelings; and to examine their complex emotional and intellectual reactions to their child's suicide.
