A men’s group is a very powerful tool to reduce shame in a man’s life and to help a man come out of hiding. It is a deeply powerful experience to share vulnerability with other men in a safe setting and to realize that you are not alone. When men learn how to become intimate with other men (in a non-sexual way) it generally creates positive impacts in all areas of their life. The group has a cost of $640 which is $80 for every weekly 2-hour session. It is covered by insurance if your insurance covers Registered Psychotherapist (RP).

A safe social microcosm to help men through life transitions- using Culturally Informed Dialectical Behavioural Therapy. This psychoeducational and process-oriented group integrates attachment theory (Bowlby), family systems theory (Bowen), and emotional maturity concepts to help members: Recognize patterns from their family of origin. Reframe their personal narrative around communication and connection. Develop concrete skills to build a sustainable "Circle of Support" (family, peers, community) and "Circle of Care" (trained professionals). The Four Pivots (Safe Space, Social Microcosm, Here-and-Now, Stable Attachment Bonds) are the active ingredients of each session.

Are you a man who looks like he has all figured out but deep down inside you feel lost or unsure? Is shoving down your feelings or getting too angry too easily causing you to engage in addictive behavior? Perhaps the "male code" of having to live up to an image of what society thinks a man should be, is not allowing you to be your true self? Please join me in a safe & confidential setting where you can explore, learn and grow together. We are meeting virtually due to Covid 19. Please contact me for information and registration.

"I just don't feel like I was a very good dad today" - in my work with new dads of kids 0-5 years old I hear a variation of this phrase almost daily. I created the Becoming Dad group to make a space for an often overlooked group in our communities. Participants can expect a supportive, non-judgmental, skills-focused 8-week group experience shared with like-minded dads who want to be the best parent they can be.

Is therapy for men different than it is for women?
Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.

How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can men prepare for therapy?
Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.

What should men know about the process of therapy?
One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
